So, people keep asking why Iâm so hooked on
@cmpunk
When I first found him, itâs was 2004. He was in
@ringofhonor and I was a broke artist from a very violent and abusive background, living in my art studio in an abandoned warehouse, bathing in a makeshift shower
Punk was the underdog who didnât belong in a system run by higher powers. Yet, he didnât just sneak in, he kicked the door down and made himself undeniable. I identified with that, he gave me hope because some of us come from dark places where the deckâs welded against us
Over 20 years later, Punk brought me back to my love of pro-wrestling and speaks to me even more. Heâs that old gladiator still refusing to quit, and thatâs a reminder to me, weâve already gone well beyond what anyone ever expected from us. We shouldnât be here, but we refuse to leave
And to top it off, last night, watching him go toe to toe with Roman Reigns in one of the greatest matches of all time, that just reignited the whole thing. After all these years, heâs still that champion underdog, still defying the odds in the ring. It just proves some fires donât go out. They only burn brighter because the system must be incinerated
At some point, I will no longer be able to rage against the art world. I will not be able to taunt and bully those who are born into wealth, those who are born into privilege, those who this art system favors because it is a rigged game. And you will still see me smiling behind the pain, behind the stress, behind the impossible, covered in a crimson mask. Because I was lucky and insane enough to never quit
If you come from a place of hurt. A place of abuse. A place of sadness. A place with no hope. Whatever it is that your heart dreams of doing. Whatever it is that you dream of accomplishing. Do not let anyone no matter who they are or where they come from stop you from achieving what you were given this gift of life to do. Fight these evil bastards that rig this game against us. Fight them with every breath you have and smile. Because even through it all youâll know itâs a grin of defiance
Thereâs no level of wealth or privilege that can ever buy that feeling. Be a voice for the voiceless
