My heart is brimming with gratitude. Last night felt like the universe conspired to weave together one of those rare, luminous moments you can never quite explain—but you feel in your bones.
Tedeschi Trucks Band set the HayHo ablaze, and we (Watkins Glen & Maxwell Friedman Group) matched the heat. Then, as if scripted by some divine jam-band playwright, we closed our first set—sliding from If You Want Me to Stay into Boogie On Reggae Woman—and in walked Derek, Susan, Kebbi, Isaac, and friends.
Leo and Crispy greeted them with open arms and thanks. At the break, I found myself talking with Derek, and hugging Susan—not as a fan chasing a moment, but as a fellow traveler on the musical road. The words they shared with me about my playing—my right-hand touch, my horn-inspired guitar phrasing, the African and jazz undercurrents in my sound, my “killer tone” (hat tip, Kye Kennedy)—were so intentional, so generous. And Derek’s very first remark? “I met your son Leo… what a great dude he is.” That alone could have been the night’s magic.
But then, Kebbi and Isaac joined MFG for our second set, and the current carried us higher. And it’s not done—we’ll see TTB again today, share more time together, and then roll north to Re/Evolution: Summerjam in Darrington, WA, where more beautiful souls await.
These are the golden hours. The kind you stop and drink in fully, knowing they won’t last forever but will shine in memory for a lifetime. To all who love, support, and believe in me—you are the rhythm my world moves to.
