Often in life things tend to come together at the same point in time, so was the case last month for SIFTer Gabrielle Patterson @gab.animates
She taught our EXPLORING MOTION GRAPHICS WORKSHOP back to back of her short #documentary Rough Cut Screening - THE SEEDS WE CARRY.
She was also featured as a @leewayfound Artist-in-Residence.

Come together with friends and neighbors to learn about the work that the community farm is doing to increase access to growing and eating nutritious food in Southwest Philadelphia. Arrive early to explore our plots, see what we are growing, and learn how to get involved. Enjoy dishes cooked by community members featuring ingredients grown right here at the farm. And experience a unique rhythmic, culinary experience with a performance by our very own chef and farmer Ben "Corn" Miller and percussionist Shakoor Hakeem.
After dinner, we will watch a work-in-progress cut of a short documentary directed by our artist-in-residence Gabrielle Patterson. The film highlights the food traditions of some of our farm stewards and stories of community connection through growing and eating food at the farm. Gabrielle and The People's Kitchen were awarded the Leeway Foundation Media Artist + Activist Residency last fall, and they have collaborated this year to increase the outreach and impact of the farm within the neighborhood and the larger Southwest Philadelphia community.

Our Plant Imprints workshop was nothing short of magnificent. A breezy day at the community garden, we experimented with turmeric as a source for imprinting plants picked with care from the garden. Nicole Duprée @ampersandtextile@indigo.in.green led us in generous offerings in collaboration with Gabrielle Patterson @gab.animates and @peopleskitchenphilly – envisioned by Gabe Castro @gabepants with Termite TV. (special shoutout to our termite, Debbie Rudman @debrudman )
Thank you to our participants who joined us on this day of experimentation and special thank you to Ben & community who fed us, provided space, and made it a welcoming environment for us.
The prints from the workshop will be used and remixed by Termite TV to turn into artwork in future culminating exhibition – stay tuned! There will also be a zine created by Gabrielle @gab.animates on display on Oct. 4th at @peopleskitchenphilly – stay tuned!

Artists for Radical Imagination is uplifting Khalil (@khaleelfbannar ) and his family of 13. Khalil has lost so much, including his parents and brother, and is struggling to support his whole family, especially his infant niece Sidra. Sidra developed a skin condition that was worsening over the course of a few months. However, with donations from the past month, Khalil was able to afford treatment for Sidra and help feed his entire family.
Now, let's get Khalil to his short-term goal of $2000!
