BOSTON MARATHON #RACERECAP PART TWO
[Continued from my last post]
Another plan that went out the window was to put in my AirPods at the half. The crowd support along the course was so unreal that I didn’t even need the music. Big Bird, Santa, kids on trampolines, Red Sox marathon jerseys, the scream tunnel, marathon parties..I loved it all.
My fastest section of the day were miles 14-18 ranging 8:04-8:21. I had told myself to push a little after the half but mentally prepare myself for the infamous Newton Hills. At mile 17, I was so happy to spot
@melissamchen ! We turned right at the firehouse and it was on! “I love hills. This has nothing on Red Rock…nothing on Hoomaluhia…” I said to myself. Strava says I ran 8:32 pace up Heart Break Hill and averaged 8:35 for the entire Newton Hills. I felt strong and enjoyed passing some of the people who had surged ahead in the early miles!
After the hills were done.. my legs were too. Around mile 22, I was very surprised when I heard a spectator yell “Fuchsia!!” and it was the amazing
@irunfortheglory (mastermind behind
@diversewerun )! This put a smile on my face as I made my way to Brookline. A little after mile 24,
@waynecoito and
@joanaisouza were waiting with the cutest signs that read “Go Fyoosh Go!” and “Chee Hoo. Kaneohe, 96744”. Super thankful for these two,
@lynyama , and my Dad for coming to Boston to support me.
“Left on Liula, Left on Kamooalii” has been my “Right on Hereford, Left on Boylston” as I visualized these turns on every run home from Hoomaluhia. And now… it was happening. As I made that final turn and saw the finish line in the distance, the crowds ROARED! I will never know what it feels like to score a game winning touchdown.. but I imagine it would feel something just like this.
I crossed the famous blue and yellow finish line with my go-to double shakas 🤙🏽🤙🏽 in 3:43:42.
First Half: 1:51:53 / Second Half: 1:51:49
The
@redsox walk-off victory to move on to the ALCS was the cherry on top to an incredible day. I wore my medal + celebration jacket to Fenway and the Red Sox fans sure knew how to make an average marathon runner feel special.
Love you, Boston. Be back in April! 🤙🏽
