The Sacred Heart Church on the edge of the Fort Belknap Reservation, Montana. Also known as the Pink Church it was founded in 1931 as an Indian Mission Church. The Cemetery was established before by Jesuits in 1924 and is dedicated to all Members of this parish and the veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. My friend Max in the Atelierhaus in Köln-Niehl. We did Highschool together and would go every Friday to the Youth Art School to paint, sketch or just experiment. We could build giant canvases and paint wha we thought of. It was a great time where I started to get more interested in photography. The King of Cards @denis.behr as the first guest performer at my friends magic theatre here in Cologne. Denis, or the Expert under the Card Table, is one of the best Card Magicians and runs the Conjuring Archive which serves as resource for in-depth research about magic. Everything was photographed on film. The large format black and white negatives are as big as two decks next to each other, so around the palm size of Denis. I photographed quite some magicians over the years. Maybe it’s time to show some more. I even created a little zine for when „Now you see me“ first came to cinemas. A week ago, every 9th grader in Sweden saw the first two images. They were part of the nationwide English exam. That means students all across Sweden learned about Fort Belknap and the A’aninin and Nakota Nations in Montana (Assiniboine & Gros Ventre). The exam is very secretive, so I wasn’t told much, but some students reached out to me afterwards, which I found so wonderful. They expressed their interest and shared some of the process: There is a big English Test for all 9th graders. A big part is listening comprehension. The exam included a fictional podcast about my project, “The Buffalo that could not dream”, how I was able to do it, and what life, struggles, and culture on the reservation are like. Afterwards, the students answered around 10 questions about what they heard. That means every kid in Sweden knows now about Fort Belknap! That is immensely special to me, because I remember people telling me that my work put them, and Fort Belknap, on the map. I was always very hesitant to post the first photograph of Steven in his regalia. I consider it one of my best photographs ever made and has a special place in my heart. I never posted it here because I didn’t want to burn it away in such a fast-paced environment. 1. Stephen during the Veterans Powwow honoring all warriors. A powwow is a traditional gathering to meet, dance, and sing. There are over 450 veterans in Fort Belknap, with around 2,800 people living there. 2. Renita Longknife in front of her horse paddock. Family land is often far from any settlement and not connected to power or water, which devalues it significantly. 3. The Milk River forms the natural border on the north side of the Fort Belknap Reservation, Montana. Here the surrounding state law ends. 4. Family pictures and memories on the bedroom wall of Jill’s house showing the adaptation of sensibilities to modern times like food, clothing and style of family portraits. 5.The Lodgepole community at the southern end of the reservation. From here, the next bank or grocery store is about an hour away by car. 6. TikToks about the exam went viral in Sweden: “How Felix felt when he got his nickname.” Thank you to everyone reaching out!

Some more photographs from our visit to Cannon Beach, Oregon, 3 years ago. You’ll see all the artifacts and errors in the image. I let those rolls lay around undeveloped for 3 years. Don’t do that. As the instruction say ‚develop promptly‘. These are some ‚inner‘ frames that are mostly ok. Some of the outside ones have heavy grain, cloud spots and even text from the film wrapper imprinted on them.
