Thanks to DNA testing sites like 23andMe and Ancestry.com, around 60% of people in the US of European descent are now identifiable – whether they realize it or not. The market for genetic data is hot. Blackstone bought the DNA data of 18 million people, which it plans to sell to other companies. 23andMe received $300 million to share its data with GlaxoSmithKline. A universal genetic database could offer us numerous benefits – like helping us cure diseases and catch criminals – or it could violate our privacy. Weigh the cost/benefit in Vol 2 of the Tech Trends Report and follow the link in bio. #DNA #ancestry #data #genetic

Biometric scanning systems have become ubiquitous post-COVID. Cameras in office buildings, grocery stores and movie theaters can now scan our temperatures, but that’s only the beginning. Enter Ettie, a $300 doorbell that takes a visitor’s photo, scans their temperature, and locks out guests who are sick or exceed the specified capacity. Are biometric scanners an invasion of our privacy? Decide for yourself in Vol 5 of the Tech Trends Report following the link in bio. #tech #tech #ettie #biometric #covid

Hydrogen is all around us. It’s a versatile energy carrier produced from a wide range of sources. Green hydrogen is renewable and never results in carbon emissions. France and Japan are already heavily invested in green hydrogen. Some think that it could be as cheap as natural gas by 2050. Should the US invest in a green hydrogen economy? The UK and Germany got a head start (and more funding) and China purports to have a quantum computer 10 billion times faster than Google’s. With computing speeds millions of times faster than today’s computers, quantum computing threatens to leave our current encryption protocols in the dust. How will quantum computing transform the future of national security? Find out in Vol 10 of the Tech Trends Report through the link in bio. #nationalsecurity #security #Google #computing #quantumcomputing

Would you attend a concert headlined by a hologram? Holograms are fast becoming a part of our reality, and their applications extend far beyond conference calls. They could allow us to speak to historical figures and lost loved ones. Teachers could take their class on a tour of ancient ruins and your doctor can give you 3D view of what’s going on inside you. Consider new realities in Vol 3 of the Tech Trends Report through the link in bio. #tech #hologram #holograms #3D
