NEW EPISODE! Why are we asking 'What School Could Be'? Could #school be... NOT SCHOOL? This brilliant conversation with the incredible @kaponociotti is a critical exploration of the #firstprinciples that we really need to be exploring right now. These are monumental questions in monumental times!
In his role at @pacificamericanfoundation , and with so much #wisdom from many different roles across the educational #landscape, Kapono shares his depth of perspectives with Tim this week.
π Landscapes not racetracks! ποΈ

In formal education we're pretty obsessed with things making #sense! But when do we create opportunities to make #meaning?
This was a fantastic and wide-ranging conversation with @campfiresam where we explored:
π΅ the role of elders in our collective response our current predicament? "You can't retire from the climate crisis!"
π *using* story as an instrument of persuasion
π§ what does it mean to be *rational* in a crisis of meaning?
βͺ have we lost our rites of passage?
πͺ where can we find reflective materials? like mythology and ancient story
π¦ The limits of the 'bird's eye view'
πΊοΈ Why we need to drop the map and get back into the territory
𧑠finding out what matters (vs being told what *should* matter)

Happy Thursday! The crossover episode with Tim Logan and the @futurelearningdesign Podcast is out now! @identitytalk4educatorslive
In our conversation, we explore how we can radically reimagine education by centering identity, equity, and innovation. Together, we examine the urgent need to move beyond outdated institutional models and uplift community-driven, learner-centered ecosystems.

So many of the concepts we build education around - like standards, outcomes, competencies - are fixed and rigid boxes, unmoving and lifeless, that we attempt to squeeze young people into! The amazing @gholdym has been supporting teachers, parents and young people everywhere to bring movement, life and #joy back into the #pursuits of learning - #identity, #intellect, #skills, #criticality and #joy.
In this episode, Gholdy sits down with Tim to chat about her fantastic books 'Cultivating Genius' and 'Unearthing Joy' and, on the way, the talk about Stevie Wonder and the secret life of plants, @pharrell , love, hate, toothpaste, loon birds and more!
Thank you Gholdy for such a fun and joyful conversation!

NEW EPISODE! What does the ancient art of #Socratic #dialogue have to do with the modern craft of being a value-creating entrepreneur? And how can both create #connection, #community, #meaning and #purpose?
Michael Strong has been living this synthesis for decades, building many different kinds of F2F and virtual schools with these ideas at their β€οΈ .
It was such a great opportunity for Tim to sit down with Michael and hear about what he is continuing to learn through his latest projects, @thesocraticexperience and Adolescent Flourishing Cultures at @universityoftexasataustin .

NEW EPISODE! Are we ready for a widespread self-examination of what it really means 'to know' the world - and, therefore, how we think we are 'teaching' others to know it?! This is not abstract philosophy or navel gazing! It's a very practical and urgent reality that has had disastrous (as well as positive) consequences for people and planet.
The global 'standard model' of #education is built on a baseline assumption that a particular type of knowledge (rational, propositional, measurable) is the starting point - and end point, for many! This anchors and biases all of our subsequent conversations about what we should βteachβ and learn in formal schooling and curricula. This is an essential conversation about #power and #hierarchies of #knowing that we don't regularly have in education. So it was amazing to be able to sit down with the incredible @minnasalami_ to talk it through.
Minna has been deeply challenging this hierarchy of knowing through her extensive work and amazing concept and book of the same title, Sensuous Knowledge. Her brilliant work coming from the tradition of African Feminism is to trouble the hierarchies, not simply invert them.

NEW EPISODE! These are urgent times! We need to ask ourselves some tough questions about what our education systems are really doing to support young people to live in a #climate changed world of at least 2 degrees of warming. What are the hands-on #skills that they will need, but also how are we supporting them to regulate difficult #emotions, and build #community as we relocalise?
This week we are so happy to have Ginie Servant-Miklos returning to the podcast, this time with her colleague @rutgerengels to talk about what they are learning through their work implementing critically important ideas in their @bildung_climate_school pilots with young people across Rotterdam.
Check out to the whole interview in the link in the comments.

NEW EPISODE! In contrast to all of the support for new parents, often the 'best' advice given to parents & teachers of adolescents is it's "gonna be painful, get your head down and get through it!" And yet, these are some of the most important and magical transforming years of a young person's life!
This week we're so happy to have @chrisbalme with us, who has refused to accept this and devoted his life to engaging with parents and creating schools that honour this "heroic journey" through adolescence!
π§ Check out the full episode linked in the bio.
And check out Chris' fantastic book, 'Finding the Magic in Middle School: Tapping Into the Power and Potential of the Middle School Years'.

NEW EPISODE! What does it mean for education to be a truly value-adding process? There are deep biases built into the educational institutions that prioritise fragments, disconnection and measurement! @carolsanfordauthor is one of the most special and important 'postive contrarians' (as her grandfather called her) calling this out! β€οΈ But she's also painting a very vivid picture of what it could be. Check out this lovely conversation with Carol about her living systems and regenerative approach to education. π π±

NEW EPISODE! Not many people have done what Viv White AM has managed to do, with her amazing team at @bigpicture.edu.au ! They never took "No!" for an answer and proceeded to build a completely new matched learning credential that enabled, rather than blocked, the kind of meaning-rich learning experience they have designed and implemented for their young people (based on Dennis Littky and Elliot Washor's pioneering work at @bigpiclearning in the US). The school leaving certificate is now recognised by 17+ universities across Australia.
