Your Paradise is out today ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Touring America and recording the last Syd Arthur album in LA were some of the best days of my life. I don’t think I was fully in the moment though, always waiting for the next big thing to happen, when it was already happening right before my eyes. It was a special time, and this song reflects that feeling and the longing to get back there one day. So proud of the AHOS music video made with the excellent maestros Pete & Peter at Block Art Media - OUT TODAY! I wanted to shoot a proper cinematic music video for A Handful of Soil and I think we achieved that. Featuring my Mum as the main character and shot at my dear friend Diane Strong’s abode, a location I used to reside at and where the song was actually written. The video was shot on 16mm film to give it that amazing quality of yesteryear. We had 12 minutes of reel so everything had to be planned perfectly with only two or three takes per shot. A massive thank you to my Mum @magillgabi Glen @londonglen for their amazing contribution and a huge thank you to Pete @petermarshfilms and Peter @petersladenfilm for one, taking on this ambitious project, for two, all their hard work and meticulous pre-production and planning, and for three, their attention to detail in the final edit. A Handful of Soil is officially out today 🎉🥳🙌 I can’t express how happy I am to release this song. I wrote this one on a £1 keyboard in a caravan in Kent. A Handful of Soil is about two people who lived their whole lives full of experiences, memories, and significant moments, but when it’s all over, they fade away without fanfare or recognition. The line A Handful of Soil is in reference to seeing my Nan throw a handful of soil into my late Grandfather’s grave. I was young at the time and hadn’t seen this before. It hit me hard, and the memory has never left me. I’d written the first part of the song quite quickly, but I knew there was something more to gain from the idea. One evening I dedicated myself to finding the next section to take it further. It was late when the muse smiled on me and I found the part that gave birth to the chords and harmonies that accompany the title line, A Handful of Soil. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I sat there and cried. It was a significant moment in my songwriting journey, as I hadn’t written much at the time. Persevering with the idea and not giving up on it showed me that I could do this — that I could get my messages and stories out there. A Handful of Soil is the second single from my debut album Heart In Hand Road, and I hope you like it.
