From our beginnings as a group of volunteers doing trap-neuter-return in West Oakland, we have grown dramatically in the past few years and are launching into our next chapter. The name Full Circle Cats reflects our mission and where we are headed. Full Circle is about stopping the cycle. The core of all cat rescue comes down to spay/neuter to end the overpopulation crisis. There will never be enough resources and homes for all the cats born on the street unless we take action and prevent it from happening in the first place. Full Circle is about evaluating every situation. Working out in the community is never just about scooping up kittens. Taking a holistic approach means spaying and neutering, providing medical care, finding paths to adoption, connecting to resources, or all of the above. No two situations are the same and we take them case by case to try to find the best outcome. Full Circle is about caring for cats at every stage. From bottle feeding the most vulnerable newborns to providing hospice care for cats that are ready for a retirement off the streets, we are there for them. Full Circle is about tackling the big picture. We don’t shy away from challenges in our community and in animal welfare. We gather data and information about the cats, the colonies, and our operations in order to make the best decisions and the greatest impact. Full Circle is about building community. This means working together, spreading awareness and education, and approaching everyone with compassion and understanding. We’re all on the same team. Let’s learn and grow together. 📸: ericalikescats

Waiting patiently for his turn… Looks like it was worth the wait! Caring for bottle babies is a specialized kind of fostering — we even have a dedicated neonate coordinator. Because we have to be prepared for any situation we might encounter on the street, we’ve developed the skills to help these tiniest kittens. It doesn’t matter if they come from a backyard or a shelter, they need love and experienced support to grow into healthy, happy kittens. Have you fostered bottle babies before?

Goofy was terrified and hiding at the shelter, but after just one day at his foster home, he was already coming out for pets! What a transformation! Some cats just don’t do well in a shelter environment and it can feel overwhelming. Luckily we were able to step in and offer a landing spot that was quiet and welcoming for this scared guy. Goofy is ready for his next home where he can continue to blossom and show his true self — cuddly, chatty, and always ready for a nap in a sunbeam!

Drop trap! This kind of trap is great for capturing several cats at once or trapping just the cat that you’re after. But only if they actually go under the trap! We’ll be teaching people all about drop traps at our Beyond Basic Trapping workshop in a few weeks!

The tiniest bath for the tiniest kitten. A warm mug to soak the infected leg and lots of kisses for sweet Boerne. He was very loved.

Boerne’s mom moved all of his siblings, but left him behind. The first day we had him in foster, everything seemed fine. The second day his leg started to swell and he stopped wanting to eat. Even with multiple vet visits and days of antibiotics, the swelling extended into his body and inflated his toes. They burst and drained. His tiny body could not maintain its temperature despite being in an incubator. We watched the degrees closely to make sure it was safe to tube feed him. He received deeply attentive care and love. We lost him yesterday. Sometimes they make it despite all odds and we tell their miracle stories for seasons to come. Sometimes they don’t make it, succumbing to the huge hurdles facing these tiniest of kittens. And we will still tell their stories.
