If you are having FOMO over missing out on the Venice Bienniale, at least you have the opportunity to see my show in Stockholm and go have an Aperol spritz at Lion Bar afterwards! "Fiction of the village in frames" at @andrehnschiptjenko is anyway open and ready to greet you! For some magicalreason I always manage to open my shows here in Stockholm the same time VB opens. Same story back in 2019. I will go later this summer though to see the prob amazing pavilion by @see__see , @asrinhaidari among others!

Virserum Mural
I spent the past week finishing this mural on the wall of Virserum Konsthall in Sweden. A lot of fun to paint in this scale, especially when I had the help of my friend Morgan Phalen to deal with a lot of stuff around the actual painting. It felt like pure luxury to just be able to focus on only painting while someone would help you block out base coats, get you food, drive you around, chit-chat and just make sure everything went smoothly in general. Virserum Konsthall was also amazing as well as Johan Enocsson who commissioned the mural. Full post on website including details and video....

Vi är stolta och glada över att få en ny muralmålning av ingen mindre än Mark Frygell! Verket heter "Arbetarmotiv" och invigs under Vårfestivalen den 2:a maj.

Two fantastic books I have been reading lately. I have been a little bit fed up with literature for a couple of years but as always with books it’s about finding the right ones.
Someone else can probably sum them up better but Technic and Magic is about the relationship in-between society as a control mechanism/reality definer (technic) and imagination of other realities as the way in which we move beyond rigid systems (magic).
Back to Reims is a beautiful description of a class journey and at the same time a credible study of the racist right wing movements of the western world and how these are related to the abandonment of the working class.
They have been invaluable inspiration in a time when the world is on fire and art in general is very commercialized and stale or flat and overtly political in a way that mostly feels forced and about positioning.
There is still an abundance of artists that make fantastic work though. I feel like the biggest problem, for artist, is the expectations on style and consistency. Something that inevitably paints you into a corner as an artist of repeating images that, once outplayed by zeitgeist, easily can be discarded and replaced.

Konstnären Mark Frygell har fått i uppdrag av oss att ta fram ett nytt motiv som ska pryda fasaden på Virserums Konsthall. Han kommer att arbeta med målningen under andra halvan av april månad 2026. Vi är mycket glada för detta och verket kommer att invigas under Vårfestivalen 2:a maj.
Mark Frygell är utbildad vid Umeå Konstskola 2007–2009, Umeå Konsthögskola 2009–2014, samt Akademie der bildenden Kunste 2010–2011. Han är representerad av Galleri Andréhn-Schiptjenko där han också hade sin första separatutställning 2019. Hans arbeten har visats i och utanför Sverige och han deltog i Modernautställningen 2018 på Moderna Muséet.
Innan den konstnärliga utbildningen var han sångare i olika punkband baserade i Umeå bl.a. The Rats och underifrånperspektivet från punken har även färgat av sig på hans konst.

Some process and info on what's going on.
I'm hard at work with my animated short at the moment. It's a slow process but very interesting and it gives me alot. Still quite some months until I need to be done but animation might be one of the most time consuming art forms you can get into. Luckaly I already got some guidance and help from Minna Floss and Oskar Aglert.
Once or twice per week I still go to my big studio to work with sculpture and painting. I attached some images that (very poorly) documents the first one I finished. They are made of garbage covered in acrylic plaster, cut, sanded and polished. Painting is also coming along nicely with some new work and I'm slowly building up the pieces of a puzzle that I think will come together as a really nice show. In some sense, since my kid was born, I feel like everything is falling in place like I haven't experienced before.

New installation at Ferrane Bakery, one of our community partners.
As part of our ongoing initiative, we rotate artworks every six months at Ferrane, presenting artists from the Mack Art Foundation residency program and bringing contemporary art into everyday community spaces.
This installation introduces artist Mark Frygell, from Stockholm, Sweden, who was in residence with us last year. His painting Hydra was the final work created during his time at MAF, an intuitive experiment using every bit of paint left in the studio, applied without mixing any colors.
This initiative reflects our mission to embed MAF artists and their work directly into the fabric of Brooklyn and NYC, creating meaningful connections between artists and community. More to come.

Happy to announce I am beginning a 5 month project producing a short film. The project, inspired by silent films, will be fully funded in its production stage by @swedish_arts_grants_committee with the goal to make it film festival ready! Theoretically work starts in March but I'm in full process trying to figure out all the shots. The short film will be produced in blender using only models, textures and other assets made by me. Above, a quick render test from yesterday while trying compositing.
With all these wars going on, while AI is running rampage, computer parts are insanely expensive and as I'm building my rendering station I realize that working on this project without the support I now received would be impossible. Thank the gods that sweden still hasn't dismantled it's culture support entirely...
I'm also restructuring my studios and making the main studio technology free and moving all the computer stuff to my small studio. The old computer corner is becoming a sculpture area that has been a long time coming.
In other news I have s big mural piece coming up at @virserumskonsthall and I'm still very much into doing work like that. Get in touch if you want a wall done!!

I will slowly start to phase out instagram and other social media and instead focus on populating my web-home with content.
