Happy Adoption Day! 39 years ago, my mom held me for the first time (see photo 2!), and I looked up at her, then immediately started crying. But, look at all those toothy little grins from Baby Asha growing up—my mom worked SO HARD as a single parent to bring joy to as many moments as possible, to support me in my dreams, and so, so much more. She likes to say she got the better end of the deal that day in April 1987, but I couldn't ask for a better mom. I will always be thankful to the universe for bringing us together.
This year feels especially special—even though we are apart!—as I finish writing my first book, Dinner Season. My love of cooking was born out of so many things, but it really started because I wanted to help my mom cook dinner. I can't wait to cook you dinner when I'm through all my deadlines! I love you, Mom.

A sold evening with @sanajaverikadri and @fromheadtotable for the new DIASPORA SPICE CO. COOKBOOK — talking spice, farming, and the many hands behind the food. From developing recipes with aunties to guerrilla photo shoots in the field, it was a conversation rooted in care, craft, and community.
Beautifully guided with lots of laughs by @meena , with generous bites from the book by @moonbeam_kitchen that carried us through the night.
