Applying to Cannes with the Maison Foundation. From Brooklyn to the Caribbean— I’m building work rooted in memory, land, and ritual. I didn’t come through traditional pipelines— I’ve built from community, from movement, from what was available. Now I’m expanding— creating work that travels, and building where it can live. Not just here to be seen— here to build what comes next. #MaisonFoundation #Cannes2026 #BlackFilmmakers #CaribbeanCinema #diasporastories

Yall know it takes me a bit to process.
Grateful to have won BAAD!’s choreography competition and to perform alongside some of the best humans for Día de los Muertos on Nov 1st. This piece transformed many times before reaching the stage. It asked me to shift, to stay close to purpose, and to create from what was left. One of those shifts meant composing my own music — which you hear here — drawn from a sound art piece born of a dream my mother and I shared, weeks apart, two years ago. My grandmother spoke first to my mother, then to me — Agárrala y ven conmigo. Through my mother’s voice notes, I found her again, alive between worlds, with her girls. That shared dream sparked my journey to begin archiving my family’s stories, myths, sounds, and songs — and has inspired me to help others do the same thru ritual, movement and sound. I dedicate this performance to Marina Valera, my mom’s best friend — a true comadre who fought for youth literacy, environmental justice, and tenderness in activism. One of my family’s biggest supporters, who always reminded me to keep my hands in the soil. (1960-2025) To all the people that inspire me to be brave, rooted, and relentless in love — thank you. Big love to my fellow performers:
✨ @leandrashipps [dancer]
✨ morganctd [dancer]
✨ nia.simone [cellist] And deep gratitude to the team at @baadbronx for holding space for movement, memory, and transformation.

Little me is cheesin’ right now. To come back to Ocean Hill—right by Bushwick where I grew up—and build with Betty’s Garden was nothing short of magic. Miss Betty’s daughter, her grandbaby, Miss Sarah and Miss Linda, the elders, the kids—everybody. And every single one of us was fed. We lifted up the garden, the land stewards across our borough, and even lit up a brick wall covered in vines with my short experimental film. We danced, we prayed with cacao, we grieved, we laughed, we ate, and we cracked our hearts wide open—with cacao leading the way. This night was a whole reminder of what it means to gather, to celebrate, to root in community. Big love to the brilliant crew who brought the the performance to life: Nothin’ But Islands: Choreographer + Artistic Director: Sabrina Frometa Composer + Musical Director: Jade “Dunia Shawty” Brown Cellist: Nia Simone Performers: Morgan De Lancy, Camille Wyatt, LeAndra Shipps, Kyra Assibey-Bonsu Videographer: Jaden Rich Stay tuned for what’s next—where theatre meets exhibition meets ritual. Pics tomorrow, I’m sleepy now.

I had to go into the archives today. I was trying to avoid my tears and melancholy—and thank god it didn’t work. I was met by the ancestors from Benin, Togo, Burundi, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Harlem and we cried so much it turned dizzy—a moment to tell the world who I am. Today, I was reminded to tend where I am—where my feet are planted. And today, these feet were planted in cacao, in strawberries and radishes and cucumbers. Special thanks to William Greaves for this footage; Langston Hughes for rhythm-ful words; and the First World World Festival of Negro Arts for helping me to sort through: “Who am I? Look upon me. Look upon my images. Listen to my sounds. These are the gates through which you must pass, if you are to know me”
