Another edition of SCRAN Chats🍴 We’ve been talking to our incredible creative collaborators and partners, who have poured so much love into SCRAN, about, you guessed it, SCRAN! What does SCRAN mean to you? What does the word SCRAN make you think of? What’s your favourite type of SCRAN? What’s the SCRAN that reminds you of home? What’s the first SCRAN you have when you get back from holiday? What’s the type of SCRAN you like to share? What’s the most northern type of SCRAN? What SCRAN do you love to cook? What SCRAN do you only eat when out? What do you love about SCRAN? Next up, we’re chatting to Tallulah Lines (@tallulahoola ) and Maria Cooper (@from.cooper.studio ) for all things pease pudding, panackelty, and potato pie ☕️ Comment below, and let us know your answer to some of the above questions! Delivered, produced, and funded by @eastdurhamtrust , @nomorenowt , and the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark as part of @intothelightdurham #PlaceLab Special thanks to @jessamynfiore , Co-Director of the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark. #SCRAN #PlaceLab #FoodAsArt #CreateYourPlace

That’s a wrap! If you’ve not seen it, you’ve missed it. Colour, Print & Motion is over. A huge Thankyou, to all the staff and students @dsfcart for making my residency so special. I’ve loved every minute. A special thanks to @hannahscullyart for just being brilliant and always knowing the answer to queries and Jon for making install a breeze. Also a special thanks to @calsglass for igniting a love of glass making through our collab piece and generally being a fantastic help at all times! You’ve not seen the last of me! I’ll be back! ❤️❤️❤️

“Build your own dancer” An interactive fuzzy felt inspired artwork. This artwork was a further development of an artwork I made for the creative take over “Nana’s House”, a celebration of the women who made us.  Originally the artwork was “Build your own nana” an interactive artwork, where people were invited to create a felt representation of the important Nana’s and Nana figures in their lives. The exhibition was held at Castle Dene shopping centre, March 2025 and was led by Ruth Flowers @inkymakes who is a member of @Strike_collective alongside myself. Funded by Place Lab Peterlee as part of the @intothelightdurham programme and supported by @nomorenowt in partnership with @beamish_museum and The Story Durham. If you’d like to hear more about nana’s house there is a lovely podcast by @ajdbowman describing the nana’s house event and the impact it had on the local community. #buildyourowndancer #fuzzyfelt #artforkids #nanashouse #IntoTheLight #nomorenowt #placelab #placelabpeterlee #strikecollective

POSE & TEMPO These artworks were printed with some of the biggest paper stencils I’ve ever used, one metre square. Both tricky artworks to print but it’s given me the confidence to print more large stencils in the future! Colour, Print & Motion is open again this Thursday and Friday 10-4pm @deaddoggallery #dance #movement #colour #screenprint #contemporarytextiles #art #textileart

Come by the gallery to visit our current exhibition 'Colour, Print and Motion' by textile artist Maria Cooper. Cooper is a printed textile artist and designer based in County Durham. Her practice is deeply rooted in the materiality of textiles, handcrafted processes and the expressive potential of colour. Through her residency at the Dead Dog Gallery and Durham Sixth Form Centre, Cooper has developed a collection that explores the human form in motion, capturing the essence of dance. Open Thursdays and Fridays, 10am - 4pm until the 18th July.
