W: I want to dip into the idea of hyper-reality, because I feel like sound can also be understood as a hyper-reality in itself. It’s always layered with histories and references. It creates soundtracks that are shaped by the past, and in turn, inform our personal and collective present and future. And I feel like, in your music, you’re making history speak to the present and the present speak back to history. How do you use your music to bridge these different realities, for yourself and for the audience?
C: There’s definitely a lot of time play happening.
Even on a written level. Sometimes I’ll say some-thing, and then that thing will happen in the future. I’ve had that happen a bunch of times.
Later, I’ll go through an experience and realize:
„That’s what that was about.“ But when I was saying it, it was just coming from a subconscious place. With what I do, I definitely interface with what’s happening now. I’m always thinking about forward action, at all times. But with that, you’re also inherently bringing the bulk of the past with you in some way. I don’t want to say it’s about honoring, it sounds so heavy, but at the same time….. Fuck it, I’ll say that—it’s also an action of honoring the past for what it is, and bringing it with you.
