The first time I was paid for a makeup was to help recreate Thriller zombies for a friends High School talent show in 1984. I was 16 yrs old. So you can imagine being given the gift of a lifetime to be able to recreate it for Micheal. A gift that I was not going to take lightly. I was already very lucky to have Christian Tinsley as my prosthetics partner on Michael and Carla Farmer as my Department Head of Hair. But to bring the dancing zombies to life, it was incredibly important to me to reach out to all of my incredible peers from my generation of Makeup Effects artists who were raised on The Making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller to join us in this once in a lifetime opportunity. A seminal moment in our lives to be sure. I reached out to all of my friends, Oscar and Emmy Winners galore. Sadly, a few were busy, but for the ones who were available, it was two nights that we will collectively never forget. Thanks to John Landis and Rick Baker. Our generation was raised on that video, and it was the greatest gift to be able to live it, on the actual location of the original. A dream come true for us all. A huge thank you to all of the amazing artists who came to play. Thank you to Graham King for thinking me, worthy, we tried to make you proud, Antoine Fuqua for being as big as fan as we were and of course John Landis for being the one who originally brought it all together so beautifully. Also special shout out to my friend, the great @jaafarjackson .. thank you for being the most gracious, patient and wonderful Actor 🙏🏻 I know you had no frame of reference but you are still nicer than you had any right to be after all my torture.
