Join us to learn more about where our food work is going. A Community-Led Framework for Food Sovereignty, Care, and Collective Infrastructure. An invitation to collaborate! Home Cooked Starts with Housing & Food is a community-led outreach, activation, and learning framework initiated and directed by Charlyn Griffith-Oro [ @_oroori_ ] of Free Brunch Program (FBP) and produced by Jena Harris co-founder of our sister org West Philly Bunnyhop [ @bunnyhopphl ]. The work is rooted in the belief that people’s basic needs — housing, food, safety, and belonging — can be met, and when we make it our duty to provide these things to each other, we thrive together. Neighborhood-based food distribution, mutual aid, and organizing across Philadelphia among community members, and grassroots organizations can collectively imagine and build durable systems of care beyond emergency response. Since 2019 @freebrunchprogram has been doing grocery redistribution, out of our cars, in art galleries… when the COVID shut down happened, we were ready. Even after food programs dwindled over the last few years, we persisted. This food stamp suspension moment is deeply impacting what we do. Because we used to SUPPLEMENT our shoppers SNAP benefits, we could order about $1K worth of food, and send ppl home with a full grocery bag. Now, because folks are not receiving those benefits, we’re providing what we’d like to be enough food for each of these households for the week. How much did yesterday’s distro cost? $2800. Fruits and Veg, Milk & Butter and Whole chickens sent out to about 100 people with an average household size of 3 ppl. Including children and senior citizens- that’s about 300 ppl. Hot food, because it’s so nice to share something warm on a chilly night. And the excess immediately went to fridges and other food orgs in the area. We need your help. Philly I’m popping up Tuesday 05/11 5-7pm with my Free Brunch Program fam with your annual Book and Vinyl Exchange. . . Inspired by creative recycling and the work of Swap DC, this is a moment for you to clear space and share with our Southwest community with intention! Bring up to 10 items, books or vinyl records in good condition from your own collection/accumulation and exchange for new-to-you items to take home. . It’s important to keep things in circulation. I think tapping into that energy of recycling and sharing— especially physical media is essential in these times. . Pull up for free groceries, bring a book/a record or three… I hear there will be snickerdoodles, and also other household items!! . Not an engagement tactic, correcting a date I misprinted on the last flyer. Hahah

Good morning people! The FREE MARKET is open today! Come by from 5-7pm, TODAY- Tuesday March 24th! We have a bright selection of fruit coming in for YOU, and some cake that’ll brighten the day if it tries to rain again! There will be NO APRIL 7th DISTRO from FBP, but we will be announcing some other fantastic offerings for the Spring. Real gangstas make HOOD HOLIDAYS!!! and… We never break our promise maaane!!! Home cooked starts with housing and FOOD!!! We launched our HOME COOKED campaign as soon as SNAP was paused, and we haven’t looked back. 2026 must bring actions that reflect food sovereignty, and readiness for the emergencies that impact our neighbors and friends. Join us for our last and biggest food distribution, our FREE MARKET and 6 other locations across the city will be active throughout the day December 23rd! @bunnyhopphl has been the first group to sign on to the campaign and immediately decided to help produce a dramatic holiday moment! We are still receiving games and will be passing these out during our event on Tuesday! Wrapping these games has been cute! 🎁 Thank you for the last few weeks of support, your donations have totaled about $3K. That covers one very resourced distro (dairy, eggs, meats, produce and bulk), and we appreciate that more than words can say. We also received $10K from the city, and that covered the other 4 distributions that have happened over the last few weeks. And Tuesdays’ distros are also resourced through community partnerships. Many of you encouraged employers to give, and rallied friends to make matching gifts. As we look towards 2026, we ask that you keep us in mind and keep encouraging your ppl to share. A supporter reached out to us and reminded us that they wouldn’t have gotten holiday gifts as a kid, if it wasn’t for giveaways hosted by community groups. So, let’s share in some revelry!
