Naomi Connor, Alliance for Choice Legend… Sometimes we are sent a friend who is so cosmically aligned that we have no option but to hitch our wagons. When Naomi came into the Alliance for Choice fold, I was so ready for her energy, her glam and her fight. From being blocked by the Northern Ireland Office twitter, when Covid prevented abortion travel, to being invited to the Queens house for tea by the same office the following year, there should be nothing that surprised people about Naomi’s life and legacy. Naomi had charm, poise wisdom, fierceness, and a fashion sense of ‘more is more’. Simultaneously she was deadly serious about abortion, VAWG, and sustained activism across multiple fights from Palestine to Trans rights to migrant rights [...] PLEASE SEE OUR FULL TRIBUTE AT /naomi-connor where you can share your own messages and photos

Join me for what promises to be a scintillating and invigorating conversation with John Byrne @byrne6534 about his new book as part of Imagine! Festival Belfast. Join us at @noalibisbookstore Belfast on Thursday 26th March from 7-8pm - ticket link here /event/useful-art-john-byrne/ or link on stories! In a world where creativity is often treated as a luxury or a commodity, Byrne asks a radical question: Does art have to be beautiful, or can it be useful instead? Byrne reveals how ‘Useful Art’ serves as a vital tool for artists and communities to reclaim their spaces and services from neoliberal pressures. From Turner Prize-winning urban regeneration to community bakeries and vegetable gardens, he showcases a collaborative playbook for direct action. This event highlights how inclusive, artist-led networks can preserve local knowledge and ignite real-world change. Discover how we can move beyond aesthetics to harness artistic endeavor for the collective good, fostering resilient communities and meaningful social impact. “An indispensable book for understanding a practice that has moved as an undercurrent through art for nearly a century, challenging artists and critics to reconsider the enduring, urgent question: what is art for?” Tania Bruguera, artist and activist

If you or a friend or loved one are confused about abortion- please call Alliance for Choice on 07894063965 or go to Not one person from NI or living in NI should need to travel or pay! #“The Department of Health (DoH) formally comissioned services at the end of 2022. Despite that, the most recent figures showed in 2023, 145 women from Northern Ireland travelled to England or Wales for an abortion – including 60 who were less than 12 weeks’ pregnant. Emma Campbell from Alliance for Choice said many of those women probably did not realise the relevant services existed in Northern Ireland. “We have a great team of doctors, midwives, nurses, who are all voluntarily willing to do this service,” she told BBC News NI. “But some people are just not getting access to it. Campbell said this was due to a lack of public information about accessing services, as well as the fact there was no local booking system to secure an appointment. Olivia’s mother said the family, who are from County Down, were “angry and upset” to hear she should never have had to travel. “I can’t believe that in 2026 - seven years after abortion was liberalised here - women are still having to travel to England,” Olivia’s mother said. “Services are in place in Northern Ireland. How on earth can that be allowed to happen?” She said there was “a massive flaw in the system”. She said she agreed there should be a local booking system to ensure “no other woman has to travel”. Campbell said Alliance For Choice believed from the 2023 figures that there were “way more people travelling than there should be”. She said while most people were treated the way they should be, it was a “really confusing system”. “For most people, it’s the very first time you’re encountering the system,” she said. “It’s hard to navigate and it’s hard to understand why they’re phoning England when they should be phoning here and they get treatment here.” In a statement, the DoH said it had worked to raise public awareness on how to access abortion care – including across social media channels.” @all4choice @arraystudios @bbcni /news/articles/cp32kwe2280o
