The digital release of Cycles II: Dichterliebe Re-Imagined is now live and available to watch for FREE for the next 7 days. The program pairs Schumann’s iconic meditation on lost love with two modern responses that explore memory, heartache, and redemption: selections from Bernard Foccroulle’s Zauberland and Katherine Balch’s estrangement, commissioned by BASS. Performances feature sopranos Sharon Harms and Lucy Fitz-Gibbon, baritone Randall Scarlata, and pianists Lyndsi Maus and Ryan McCullough. And don’t forget — if you’re a Digital Subscriber, you have unlimited access for the next month, along with access to all of our bonus materials, through BASS’ Digital Concert Hall. #BrooklynArtSongSociety #ArtSong #ClassicalMusic #OperaSinger #ClassicalMusicLover #OperaLover #Recital #NYC “

Cast Update! We’re delighted to welcome soprano Sharon Harms to the stage for Cycles II: Dichterliebe Reimagined on Sunday, November 9 at 5PM. Sharon will be stepping in to perform Bernard Foccroulle’s Zauberland—a haunting, dreamlike meditation on love, loss, and the search for home. Praised by The New York Times as “dramatically committed and not averse to risk,” Sharon brings fearless artistry and luminous precision to every performance. Known for her passionate interpretations and adventurous repertoire, she has collaborated with leading ensembles including the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Eighth Blackbird, Ensemble Signal, and the MET Opera Chamber Orchestra. This is Sharon’s second appearance with BASS and we’re incredibly grateful that she can join us for this performance! Join us for an evening that reimagines Schumann’s Dichterliebe through three extraordinary modern lenses. #BrooklynArtSongSociety #Soprano #OperaSinger #ArtSong #ClassicalMusic #OperaLover #ContemporaryMusic #VocalMusic #NYC #Brooklyn

Major gratitude. Some of the best pieces for voice the @composers_conference has ever seen. Time & space with some of my favorite artists and humans. Continually finding and returning to myself after the shock of postpartum life. Finding beautiful things to wear when one’s body has felt so unfamiliar (thank you @nooworks ). Big power in singing with said body, fully and without fear or doubt, and always liberated by amazing conductors who trust and respect and lift up everyone in the room (lookin at you @tianhui_ng & @hofman.matilda ). I’m a different person than I was a month ago. Thank you @kurt_of_bernal_hill for bringing us all together and steering a seemingly impossible ship. And as always, biggest love to @levylorenzo for being the best partner, caring for our little one solo for 2(!) weeks, remembering to take pics, and always sharing the weight. FULL HEART 🤍

Post-rehearsal with the brilliant @freckleddiva and amazing @sophiadoucomposer . We are honored (and excited!) to premiere Sophia’s work ‘4th dimension of words’ with soprano Sharon Harms this week as part of @composersnow Festival Opening Night at National Sawdust on Jan 29. Sophia Kunxu Dou (b. 2007), recipient of the 2025 First Commission Award and mentee of @evbvd , has written a fantastic barnburner piece for soprano, flute, clarinet and piano, inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath. We can’t wait to bring this chamber quartet to life and be a part of this special evening. Hosted by Tania León, founder and Artistic Director of Composers Now, “this event kicks off a month-long celebration spotlighting the voices of living composers across the nation,” featuring performances of works by Daniel Blake, Geo Suqillo, Kirsten Childs, and Jennifer Curtis; visionary awards honoring George Lewis and Paola Prestini for their extraordinary contributions to the arts; and a First Commission Award celebrating an emerging composer. A member of the New York Youth Symphony, recipient of From The Top 2024 Fellowship, and winner of the 2023 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Awards, Sophia Dou studies composition with Daniel Felsenfeld at Juilliard Pre-College. #contemporaryclassical #soprano #fluteclarinetpiano #nationalsawdust

Friends, I have a new double album. Charles Ives Songs and Solos celebrates Ives in advance of his 150th birthday next month. Sharon Harms, Andrew Munn, and Alice Teyssier are the brilliant singers on the disc, for whose collaboration I’m extremely grateful. 47 songs and six solo pieces comprise the program. It’s available today for high-quality downloads on Bandcamp, with streaming to follow; physical discs can be shipped in two weeks. Deep thanks to all who made this possible, especially the incredible Oktaven Audio and my family. Charles Ives has always been central to my musical life, but now as an American living in Germany, the music has assumed even more significance. My podcast has been revived for an accompanying episode about Ives’s business and personal lives, which is up at jacobgreenberg.net/podcast. A special page of liner notes and song texts is at jacobgreenberg.net/ives. Links are in bio. I hope you enjoy the recording.

This will forever be my favorite picture of Harold. Before his stroke, we had coffee dates and chicken sandwich dates, chats about life and death and relationships and music, mused on the important and not-so-important things, but most importantly we bitched and laughed. A. Whole. Lot. Still processing but remembering and cherishing our friendship with great fondness. We never got around to the song cycle he was dreaming up for me, but I’m so grateful for all the work he left us. He will be so missed. RIP old friend 💔 @haroldmeltzer
