🍷 New immersive tasting alert!! 🖼️
Saturday 13th June
Framed & Fermented
8 Arundel Mews, Brighton
4pm to 6pm
Join Butlers Wine Cellar and Framed & Fermented for a special late afternoon wine tasting to celebrate the opening of Earth Matters exhibition.
This tasting takes a slightly different approach: a selection shaped in response to sculpture, natural textures, planting, handmade furniture, and the atmosphere of the exhibition itself.
Set within the Framed & Fermented gallery in Kemptown, Earth Matters features works by @michaelrainsfordart and @willnashsculpture alongside handmade furniture by Steve Baines, immersive plant curation from @hugoandgreen and a @christopherfarrdesign rug woven into the space.
Expect thoughtful wine pairings, live jazz drifting through the courtyard, and a relaxed late afternoon opening in the sun.
Limited spaces available so please book in good time.

Richard Whadcock’s paintings are built slowly through layers of oil paint, allowing light, atmosphere and memory to emerge over time.
Hovering somewhere between landscape and abstraction, the works never fully settle. Surfaces dissolve and reappear, holding a quiet tension between presence and disappearance.
Currently on view during May Artists Open House at Framed & Fermented

Some exhibitions ask to be consumed quickly.
This one probably asks the opposite.
EARTH MATTERS brings together artists, makers and collaborators whose work resists speed: hand-built forms, raw materials, quiet observation, traces of landscape, texture and time.
Featuring earth paintings by Michael Rainsford, sculpture by Will Nash, a Christopher Farr rug installation, curated planting by Hugo & Green, handmade furniture by Steve Baines, and thoughtful wine pairings from Butlers Wine Cellar.
Framing and curation by Thomas Rainsford.
Not as nostalgia.
As recalibration.

Proud as punch to be hanging out with some of Sussex’s best artists. Beautiful work, exceptional presentation and each purchase comes with a complimentary bottle of wine. Thank you Tom. Cheers 🍷

Steve Baines’ Clout Chair draws on residual and reclaimed workshop materials, giving overlooked fragments a renewed sense of purpose and permanence.
Using ash, willow and copper clout nails, the piece sits somewhere between furniture and sculpture.
Part of Earth Matters, and currently on view during May Artists Open House at Framed & Fermented.

Gray Simpson’s paintings sit somewhere between control and instability.

A recent Richard Whadcock work found a new home this week.
Its place has now been taken by Azure Pools.
Built through translucent layers, abrasion, and quiet gestures, the painting seems to shift between atmosphere and structure depending on how long you spend with it.
Now on view at Framed & Fermented.

Paired not for status, but for patience, depth, and a lifelong connection to the earth.
For his 100th birthday, we paired David Attenborough with Roagna Barolo La Pira 2017 from Butlers Wine Cellar and @luca_barbaresco
“The age-old Nebbiolo vines, nurtured over years…”
Felt appropriate somehow.
Happy 100th birthday Sir David.
