A week ago today we had a mesmerizing opening and unveiling of the Lüftl-Muralismo, we painted within three weeks of August together with Juan Camilo Alfonso @fonso.co in the village of Umhausen in the Tyrolean Ötztal. Up to 100 guests came for the opening & the brass band of Tumpen played The Final Countdown to acompany the first exposure of the hybrid mural-painting.
A lot of thanks go out to all the helpers of both the opening and the realization of the mural!

Lüftlmuralismo is a project by Christian Diaz Orejarena and Kornelia Kugler (aka Diego von der Riviera) produced within the framework of Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Tirol. The mural is displayed at the center of Umhausen from now on.

On the occasion of our upcoming inauguration of "Lüftlmuralismo" here we share some insights into our brainy research and conception phase. We worked on a collage of contemporary and future visions - utopic, dystopic and a lot in between!
We can't believe it: The Wall is growing beautiful, and it is not far from being completed!
We are very much exited to invite you to the inauguration of a quite special Wallpainting we are about to finish!
The opening will start the 23th of August 2025 at 6pm in Umhausen, Tirol, Austria.
There will be music drinks and a surprise happening! We are looking forward to see and celebrate with you!

We are currently in Ötztal, Tyrol, hacking into the traditional craft of Lüftl painting by combining it with the socio-critical, participative and de-colonial methods of Latin American Muralismo.
With the image we ask questions about the consequences of climate change and mass tourism, and possible futures in the Tyrolean valleys. The motif is inspired and informed by discussions with residents, as well as by our own artistic research, scientific findings, and critical story-telling.
After much prep and brainfuck we are now Bob Rossing away aka realizing the mural together with @fonso.co and will finally present it on the 23rd of August. The process of painting is already a happening of its own, here in Umhausen.
We got the chance to realize this project as part of the Art in public Space program of @kunstlerinnenvereinigung_tirol - their open call for 2026 is still up, check it out.

Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Tirol widmet sich 2025 künstlerischen Projekten, die im Moment der Störung ihr Potenzial entfalten und so neue Räume öffnen. Störfaktoren, die unvermittelt konfrontieren, aufwirbeln und Problemstellen sichtbar machen.
➡️ Lüftlmuralismo von Christian Diaz Orejarena und Kornelia Kugler verbindet das klassische Handwerk der Lüftlmalerei mit den gesellschaftskritischen, partizipativen und dekolonialen Methoden des lateinamerikanischen Muralismo. Der „Lüftl-Muralismo“ entwirft so ein Bild der Folgen von Klimawandel und Massentourismus und stellt die Frage nach möglichen Zukünften für die Täler Tirols.
➡️ ÜberEck von Andrea J. Grote und Gabriele Künne rückt mit einem durchaus humoristischen Blick sowie mit Hilfe von Schischutzmatten, Kletterseilen und Karabinern, die Auswirkungen der erhöhten Verkehrslast und der baulichen Situation in vielen Tiroler Gemeinden in den Fokus, bei der viele Häuser ohne Vorgarten oder Gehweg direkt an einer Durchfahrtsstraße stehen.
➡️SCHNEE VON MORGEN von Lois Hechenblaikner thematisiert die enge Verknüpfung des Klimawandels mit dem Tourismus. Was sonst von der scheinbaren Idylle der Speicherseen camoufliert wird, wird in dieser Installation aus ca. 200 senkrecht schwimmenden Skiern auf pointierte Weise sichtbar gemacht.
➡️Hinschauen von Nicole Weniger eignet sich die männliche Tradition des Schnalzens in ihrer Performance an, um mit einer Atmosphäre geprägt von Schweigen und Wegschauen zu brechen. Eine eigens für die Performance kreierte Komposition ergänzt Hinschauen um eine weitere Ebene.
