Y’all, we’re officially launched 🥳 Meet @founding.possibilities a growth studio for diaspora founders who are scaling businesses that *lift up* the cultures & communities we come from. Founding Possibilities builds upon our decade of work at @cambio_co Filipino Jewelry & @sinta_co – one of the first and only brands online that unapologetically centred Filipino identities and grew in partnership with artisans in the Philippines. I learned firsthand how powerful it is when we use business not only as a source of livelihood, but as a platform to reclaim the parts of our cultures and identities we’re so often forced to shrink and hide. Cambio & Co. also taught me that we don’t have to accept ‘business as usual’. Businesses can - and MUST - be generative instead of extractive. That when we scale our businesses *generously*, we can create more wealth, health, and joy for our communities. We call our approach 🌿 BUILD ECOSYSTEMS, NOT EMPIRES ✊🏽 and it’s core to the work we do. We offer: ✨Brand messaging and organic marketing that embraces your full identities and moves you away from high-cost ads. We focus on growing your business through authentic storytelling, community building, and conversion-focused content rooted in your mission. ✨Sustainable systems and logistics for product-based businesses, from tech stack design, customer operations, inventory intelligence to global shipping. ✨High-performing & values-driven team development, so you can transition from solo founder to CEO with people operations, fractional CMO support, and thoughtful onboarding. ✨Beyond 1:1 work, we cultivate community through free virtual co-working sessions for BIPOC founders & a newsletter about marketing, conscious leadership, and what it really looks like to scale generously. Curious about working together or collaborating? DM us or book a call with our team (aka. Me @gelainesantiago lol). Link in bio to schedule a call 👆🏽 #buildecosystemsnotempires

COME CO-WORK WITH US 💻 If you’re a BIPOC founder committed to social justice, then you know that the “hustle harder” culture wasn’t built for us. We need spaces that prioritize collective care, sustainable growth, and community over competition. Join us every other Tuesday for virtual co-working + community strategy sessions for founders! What we’ll do in 2 hours: ✨ Two 40-minute “gentle accountability” work sprints. ✨ A 20-minute AMA/Community Strategy Session where you get to bring your questions about marketing, strategy or systems (or hear others work through their challenges). ✨ Connect with a community that shares your values and commitment to social justice. 💌 While Founding Possibilities is unapologetically built for BIPOC founders, active allyship is a core value. We welcome justice-aligned allies who are doing the work to lift up the collective and are looking for the strategic support & community to match their values. RSVP AT THE LINK IN BIO 👆🏽 #EcosystemsNotEmpires

This is hard for me to say out loud on The Internets, but I’ve been feeling lost lately. Unsure of my purpose and role in the community. Facing self-doubt and fear about the future. I wonder if I’m still relevant, if I’m still capable, if I’m too old now or smart enough and whatnot. I wonder how to move forward with my activism. How to build a business that’s *truly* empowering and generating solutions, instead of replicating the same power dynamics that keep so many people struggling. I worry that I talk a big talk, but do I actually have what it takes to make it happen? I find myself wondering what to do when there’s *so much* work to be done. And who I need to be to meet this moment in history. I know it’s understandable to feel lost these days when the world is burning - literally and figuratively. And on a personal level having just closed @cambio_Co and @sinta_co – two businesses I’ve dedicated my life to since I was 25 – of course I’ll feel lost. And even if I know that rationally, it doesn’t stop the voices in my head from being so mean and judgemental. But I was at an event the other day and the facilitator asked the group, “Are you in the Messy Middle of anything right now? How’s that going for you?” And the chat lit up with folks sharing all the Messy things they’re stuck in and wading through. It made me feel better and a little less shitty about myself, realizing we’re all wading in what feels like 💩 some days. That all of us are, more often than not, just people trying to live and build and dream without losing ourselves in a world that wants us to forget our humanity. So I’m sharing my Mess here in case this might resonate with you, too. Are you in the Messy Middle of something? How’s that going for you? #buildecosystemsnotempires #standforsomething #womenowned #bipocfounder #foundersofcolor

For over a year, I’ve been hosting biweekly virtual co-working sessions for founders committed to social justice. I barely have time to promote them, and yet – people keep coming. Founders have joined from all over the world - Canada, USA, Mexico and the UK. One person even stayed up late to join from the Philippines! And it’s a surprise and delight each time. Before we dive into focused co-working, we start with a community strategy session. Everyone is welcome to bring a question they have to the group, and it always feels like magic seeing the community pull together. One week, it was a social enterprise cafe trying to find their footing. Another, it was a founder launching her sex-ed course for newcomers in Canada. It’s the highlight of my week, and the best part? We get to work after and get soooo much done! Are you a BIPOC founder who wants to build a business that lifts up our community? Join us for the next co-working session on Tuesday April 14th! We need more convos about INVESTING for racialized communities & founders 💰💬 And no - we’re not talking about “get rich quick” investment schemes. We’re talking the kind of investment that can build GENERATIONAL and COMMUNITY wealth. From personal experience: I’m proud to have bootstrapped our first 2 companies @cambio_co and @sinta_co without any loans or outside investment. But the truth of the matter is… I didn’t know there was any other option. The world of investing and raising capital always felt murky and mysterious: like it belonged to certain kind of people that didn’t include me - a Filipina daughter of immigrants from a working class family. So when I was approached by the @pwrforward team to moderate a conversation about investing for the Filipino community, I was excited but also nervous! This topic is way outside my comfort zone, but deep down, I knew that was one of the reasons why I had to moderate this convo. Because if I grew up thinking that investing was mysterious or worse - inaccessible - then I knew others in the community felt the same way. The evening was electric. We learned from @abrihan about her experience as a young Pinay investor, and Jennifer Uy shared how she hustled to make @happy.naturalproducts the first Filipino-Canadian business to hit a major retailer like Walmart in Canada. We talked about burnout and what we need to do to ensure Filipinos are paid what we’re worth. It was powerful to be in a space made for racialized founders and the Filipino/a/x community where we talk about investing: not just to grow our businesses, but the kind of investments that can create generational & collective wealth, and build a lasting legacy. Thank you to the PwrForward team @charmaineramirez_ and @dunknodavid for bringing these convos to our community and to my fellow panellists Jennifer Uy and Faye Abrihan. I know this conversation is just a start! What’s been your experience with the world of investing? Would love to hear in the comments! 👇🏽 🌿 Ecosystems, Not Empires ✊🏽

Last weekend, I facilitated a workshop for 20+ women entrepreneurs on a topic I don’t usually talk about: bootstrapping. The women, majority of whom were racialized and some newcomers, were starting their businesses with very little financial capital. But they had a wealth of knowledge from their home countries, rich lived experiences, and some had even been entrepreneurs for much of their lives - but they didn’t consider themselves that way. My mom was the same way: she’s been an entrepreneur all her life back in the Philippines and still to this day in Canada, but she never saw herself as one. For many, entrepreneurship isn’t an option - it’s a means of survival. And all this talk of startups, Silicon Valley, and bootstrapping feels like (IS) another world. So my first goal as a facilitator was to shift the conversation: Instead of teaching you how to bootstrap, what are the ways you’ve ALREADY been doing it? The change in energy was instant, and we had so many aha moments together: ✨ One of the women realized she’s been an entrepreneur her whole life, and has basically been bootstrapping her creative projects for years. ✨ Another realized that she may not have a lot of money, but she’s got tons of Knowledge capital that she can trade/exchange with other business owners. ✨ The women helped each other brainstorm ways to fund their business without financial capital, and came up with incredibly creative ways of using their networks and skills By the end, I loved seeing the room shift the narrative from, ‘how do I grow my business when I have so little money’ to ‘I’m rich in knowledge and relationships’ and have so much to offer. It was a powerful day and I loved meeting everyone. Thanks for having me @scadding_court Women’s Entrepreneurship Hub and @torontomet . PS - shout out to @theforumca for their amazing way of explaining financial, knowledge/wisdom, and relationship capital which helped inform this workshop! #ecosystemsnotempires #womenownedsmallbusiness #bipocfounders

If you could hit reset on your work life, what would you change? 💭 This is the question my business + life partner and I asked ourselves yesterday - our first day back from vacation since we closed our 10 year old business. Before jumping into work and building our next venture, we had a meeting and asked ourselves: What do we want to continue from our past life? What do we want to stop doing? And what do we want to start doing? For many founders, we’re drawn to entrepreneurship because of the promise of freedom and independence. But how many of us, whether consciously or not, end up recreating the same toxic hustle cultures that we tried to leave behind in the first place? Although we loved the business we had built with @cambio_co , there was a point in the journey when it began to feel like Cambio was running us more than the other way around. The business had its own pace, and we did our best to keep up, often at the expense of our health and joy. So this time around, we’re determined for life to be different. We made a reset list and wrote things like: 🙅🏻‍♀️ No more early morning and late night meetings. 🙅🏻‍♀️ No more 10-12 hour workdays and no waiting til 10PM to have dinner. ☺️ Yes to continue practicing gratitude at the start of each meeting, lunching together most days, and ending each workday with a walk. 👏🏽 Big YES to more cafe dates, carving time for passion projects and activism, and scheduling time for learning and self development. While closing a business is obviously a clear opportunity to reset, I realize it’s something we could have done sooner. As purpose-driven founders, our businesses must exist for our communities - of which we’re part of it. Our work needs to fit into our lives, instead of trying to fit our lives around our business. It’s never too late to design the life and impact we want. So if you could hit reset and design your ideal work life from scratch, what would that look like? And how is it different from your life today? #exosystemsnotempires #behindthescenes #smallbiz #bipocfounders #pinayowned

BUILD ECOSYSTEMS, NOT EMPIRES 🍉 AND LESSONS FROM OLIVE TREES 🫒🕊️ The other week at @rise_tribe event for Filipino youth, I was asked how I approach competition as a small business owner. This was my response 👆🏽 Olive trees are core to Palestinian culture and identity. And a friend told me once that how Palestinians cultivate olive trees is like how they cultivate life: you plant it and nurture it for the generations that come after you. I think there is so much we can learn in how we approach our businesses and our livelihoods. We are so used to glamourizing people who’ve built empires that we don’t bother looking back at all the things they destroyed along the way. I believe that as brands, creatives, and content creators, we have the opportunity to reimagine what thriving and successful businesses look like. Not ones built on domination, but one that cultivates more life. Palestine is truly freeing us all. May we in turn do our part to to free Palestine within our lifetimes 🍉🇵🇸 If you’re a brand, business owner or content creator who is organizing and coordinating for Palestine, please tag @brands4palestine !
