With yesterday being May Day, an annual celebration of Labor rooted in radical action and the Haymarket Affair, it only felt right to celebrate Garden alum @preciousjewelism and her single release “DayShift”. @wanyaeverywhere and @jercshore share some love for the working class booster. The last installment of my favorite performances this first quarter include @nimsmusiq with his velvet crooning at the ESOTERICA showcase at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn and @wakai007 ’s radical and poetic blues performed at @diabolicaldiscs January Showcase in D.C.
Curating the list from the various different shows and artists I’ve captured was definitely a challenge. Curation is a skill of having a good ear and ability to coordinate and produce. Being an artist is also not so easy in these precarious times of access and artifice, but going into the real world and seeing such talent is a reminder that no industry or machine can dictate greatness unless you allow it to.
