Track💨 When’s the last time you felt the nerves before the start gun, the adrenaline rush of the start, the push of the lane next to you, the emptiness of the finish? Charlotte Summer Track Series is back on June 3.

Durability for runners isn’t about logging tons of miles (you know we’re fans of quality over quantity around here). It’s about patiently building a body and mindset that can handle stress, recover, and keep showing up. When you can do that here’s what happens: 🦾Physiologically, you’re strengthening connective tissue, improving tendon strength, and increasing mitochondria so your muscles can produce energy more efficiently over time. You’ve got to be healthy to do this, and the “run tons of miles —> get injured and/or burnt out—> stop running” cycle doesn’t lend itself to this growth. 🧠 Mentally, you’re strengthening patience, discipline, consistency, and awareness to listen to your body. These things are learned, they don’t just magically happen. The most durable runners are tough, in the best, most lasting possible way. ⚡️

What does Forward Motion coaching consist of? It depends on who you work with! Each of our coaches have a bit of a different style: all of us have the same philosophy grounded in personal experience, sound education, and the belief that no two athletes are the same. ➡️We curate individual plans for anything from 1 to 100 miles. That’s done virtually with weekly (at the minimum) check-ins to adjust the plan if needed. ➡️We work in person with athletes on form and efficiency. There is always something to dial in. ➡️We instill confidence in our athletes’ ability to execute runs, workouts, and races. We work on race plans, goals, and strategies. ➡️We focus a lot on the mind— because we know firsthand that it is often the biggest factor in determining results. If you’ve ever thought about any of those things — we’d love to chat.

Leveling the playing field, cross country course and track should be a community standard. And it isn’t. Here is what is still happening in our world as it relates to women in sport:
➡️Fewer chances to play: Girls and women still have fewer teams, slots, and pathways in many sports systems, especially outside elite levels. ➡️Less funding, worse resources: Women’s programs are more likely to get smaller budgets and older facilities ➡️Unequal pay for equal work: Women pros often earn a fraction of what men do ➡️Smaller sponsorships and deals: Brands still invest less in women’s teams and athletes ➡️Minimal media coverage: Men’s sports dominate airtime and headlines ➡️Stereotyped storytelling: When women are covered, the focus too often shifts to looks, relationships, or “likability” instead of performance ➡️Few women in power: Men still hold most coaching, front‑office, and decision‑making roles—even in women’s programs ➡️Safety and respect gaps: Women and girls report higher rates of harassment and abuse in sport ➡️Policing women’s bodies: Rules and debates around “who gets to compete” often target women’s bodies instead of supporting their right to play *️⃣So, yes. We get a day to be recognized.

“Coach” is a bit of a cringey title, if we’re being honest. We just want to help people feel confident, strong, and to stop them from doing anything stupid. It’s about connection, perspective, and believing in people more than they believe in themselves. Forward Motion is built is built on helping people move through whatever’s in front of them, one step at a time. Titles are silly, we’re just here to help you keep going. 📸 @cltnativeagain 📍 @thesole.clt

It’s ok. You don’t have to ♥️ it, just read and get comfortable with the words—because it’s biology, not taboo: ⬇️ Female athletes will get a period. They will go though perimenopause. Then they will experience menopause. We go through three chapters of the same story — and we will figure out our body’s power and how it evolves through every phase. Here’s to breaking the stigma, one awkward conversation at a time. 💃

Today (and every day) we celebrate girls and women in sports. Our belief that every female deserves space to move, compete, grow strong and have fun within sport drives us each and every day. Here’s to the joy and empowerment we know intentional movement brings, and to keeping our women in it at each age. 💪

One of the goals of Forward Motion is to help you to feel strong when you’re running. That comes from good running form. We each have our unique biomechanics, however there are some things that are consistent across the board when it comes to running in the most efficient way: foot strike, posture, and cadence to name a few. We work one on one with runners to identify areas to focus on, because we can all dial things in. We are teaming up with the squad from @carolinasportsclinic , and invite you to kick-off spring training! Come to get discounts on race entries for Charlotte Racefest as well as run analyses, and be eligible for some fun giveaways including a full run analysis from @rundnasystem . We’ll have answers to your running, nutrition and training questions. Please be sure to RSVP at link in bio to be eligible to win! 🕡: Tuesday, January 13, 6:30 - 8:30pm (drop in any time!) 📍: Carolina Sports Clinic, SouthPark

With a little teamwork from @easyelitedistance , our winter conditioning program is able to offer two clinics at two different times and locations, train both middle school boys and girls, and focus on the complete track project: distance, mid-distance and sprints. These kids are heading into track season with a head start! 🚀

Q: What would happen if you trained and raced like it was an experiment? A: You’d be less stressed, that’s what. Research shows that entering into a situation where the stakes seem high with an outcome-only mindset (“will I make my A goal?”) not only sets you up for possible failure, it makes the whole experience more stressful. Instead of “Will I win?” (super high stress) ask things like: ➡️How can I move more efficiently? ➡️What happens if I change up my pacing? ➡️How can I recover smarter? ➡️How fast can I run the last 400 meters? —> and bring down the pressure all round. We are all an experiment of one, so train like it. See how we shift “bad runs” into data to learn from, not failures.
