Project Sweetbriar / Field Trip to Formed Objects ✨
One last look at the steel fabrication before the island frame heads off to be painted!
The walnut cabinet - built by Heritage Woodcraft - was dry fit to the frame to be sure all dimensions are dialed in!
This custom freestanding island is a compact, highly functional piece that will feel like a jewel box within the kitchen. Steel, walnut, and Carrara marble—yum.
From the working side - with cutting board storage, 6 slim drawers for silverware, knives and table linens and towel bar — to the Dining facing side — perfect “head of the table” for serving, clearing or sitting to sip coffee or a glass of wine.
And the little brass feet will be blackened steel—and are threaded for leveling the island on the stone tile floor.
A reminder that great design lives in the details and the making.
Next stop 👉🏻 Powder Coating!

This was our last project of the year in 2025. A balustrade that stretched all of us, sharpened our math skills, and came out pretty nice in the end. Always grateful to work with a great team —>

Designed as a periscope, the steeply sloping ceiling of the Studio at 4015 extends up to pull in the beautiful, diffuse northern light throughout the interior. Even with the tree canopy, the window wall extends beyond the floor and ceiling, inviting the experience of the landscape directly into the space.

Focused on rich materiality and fine craft, the 4015 House honored the original home's mid-century tradition while breathing new life into the experience of space, light and detail.
While there may be frost on the rooftops this morning, false spring is in the air in Portland! These moments of sunshine are carrying me through the end of winter ☀️
Pictured here is the outdoor patio of our River Residence that happens to be ready for show time in any season thanks to its large overhang and multiple heat sources.

The devils in the details right! Shout out to Bruce for rising to the challenge of carving out this pull in the quartzite backsplash

Feels like Fall arrived today in Portland and I’m not too mad about it! Ask me again in a few weeks when it’s dark at 4:30 though…

Who’s in favor of bringing back sunken tile tubs 🙋♀️ This was common in mid-century homes but most modern homes now get a statement freestanding tub. Which would you choose?
