50mm off the wall. Not 49. Not 51. Fifty. That's compliance. No grey area, no "close enough." So the bend has to do two jobs at the same time - hold the form the architect drew, and hit the number the code wants. When's the last time we did something like this? Honestly, we're not sure. Might be the first. But that's the stuff we like. Old technique, new rules, something to solve. Bring it on. Part 3 of 3. Architect: @woodsandwarner Builder: @elk.building Media: @hypr.agcy

Why heat it? Why not just bend it cold? Because cold steel doesn't negotiate. It cracks, it springs back, it sits there daring you to try again. 600°C is the number. Below that, it won't move. Above it, you've cooked the structure out of it. There's a window, and it's not a big one. And if you miss it? Piece goes in the bin. Grab another bar. Have another go. Part 2 of 3. Architect: @woodsandwarner Builder: @elk.building Media: @hypr.au

Some things haven't changed in 200 years. You heat the steel. You hit it. You bend it. That's how you get this shape, the same way people were doing it before any of us were born. What has changed is the paperwork. A modern handrail has to sit 50mm off the wall, no exceptions. Fold a 10mm flat bar back on itself and you've got 20mm. Nice and neat. Also fails. So here we are. Forge in one hand, compliance code in the other. Part 1 of 3. Architect: @woodsandwarner Builder: @elk.building Media: @hypr.agcy

Why does wall trim need this level of care? High-end hospitality isn't just the food. It's how you feel in the room. And how you feel in the room is the sum of a lot of small decisions that most people never notice. Builder: @infinityconstructions Media: @hypr.agcy

People ask why it takes so long. Why it costs what it costs. Here's one of the answers. 83 pieces of bronze wall trim for a hospitality fit-out. Each one identical in form. Each one unique in finish. On the drawing they're a simple detail. In reality, they're weeks of prototyping, us, the designer, and the joiner working through dimensions, material thickness, how it sits next to the joinery, what the finish does under light. Then the welding. Slowly, by hand. Too much heat and the profile bends. Bend it and the piece is done. There's no fix that doesn't show. High-end hospitality isn't just the food. It's how you feel in the room. And how you feel in the room is the sum of a lot of small decisions that most people never notice. Builder: @infinityconstructions Media: @hypr.agcy

So we know all about Metalflow™. But how much are we actually going to save? Watch the video to find out. It's still a bit crazy to us that this is even possible. Premium finish. Less than a premium price. Sounds alright to me! Part 3 of 3. Builder: @mazzeihomes Joinery: @cosinteriors Media: @hypr.agcy

If you watched part 1, you saw the piece. Now we get into the why. Metalflow™ isn't just a different technique, it's a different set of rules. Where sheet metal puts you in a box around size, cost and complexity, this opens it up. You can build things at a scale and price point that sheet work just can't reach. On this one, that meant a 3.7 metre blackened steel fireplace that held the designer's vision without blowing the budget. Part 3 coming soon. Builder: @mazzeihomes Joinery: @cosinteriors Media: @hypr.agcy

What if I told you we made this fireplace without using a single sheet of metal? This is Metalflow. A 3.7 metre blackened steel fireplace, fabricated in a way that would normally be impossible at this scale, at this cost, with this finish. Part 1 of 3. Stay tuned - we'll show you how it was actually done. Builder: @mazzeihomes Joinery: @cosinteriors Media: @hypr.agcy

Cue the transition… From timber to blackened steel, just like that. Except it’s never “just like that.” It’s process, precision, and a lot of work you don’t see. Architect: @nervagnareed Media: @hypr.agcy

How good do these brass spouts look? A quick glimpse into the process behind how these come together, following on from yesterday's video. Rolled by hand, assembled to tolerance, welded, polished back, and finished in tumbled brass with a wax seal. Client: @hareconstruct Architect: @emmatullocharchitects Media: @hypr.agcy
