The Spatial Composition: The New Frontier talks continue. This week I presented the research and demonstrated the concept at Dolby's fantastic Atmos screening room in Hollywood.
Following last year's event at Dolby HQ in San Francisco and the AES Show in Long Beach, this was the third presentation in the series. Thank you to Dolby & AES LA for inviting / joining us.
More cities and universities are in the works.
It is wonderful to witness how our demonstrations inspire composers, songwriters, producers and engineers to not only mix but write and design music in Atmos. When there isn't enough time to answer all the questions and discuss audience ideas, you know that you've tapped into something new & robust. The novel ways to utilize space as the ๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ is a revolution of compositional ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โ๐๐ โ going far beyond just using some new tools.

I LOVE using previous-gen technology in ways that were overlooked when everyone was rushing into the latest trends - just like most do today. Fresh culture + re-thinking abandoned tools = innovation. This is one of the reasons why I'm not worried about a.i. today...

At the end of my Spatial Composition talk at Dolby HQ last week, I made a data-backed proposal to the AES and the Recording Academy to recognize space as the 5th element of music.
I will be giving another presentation on the topic at the Audio Engineering Society's ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ก, ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐, ๐จ๐ง ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ญ. ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ญ ๐:๐๐๐ฉ๐ฆ. I will talk about various angles of the underlying study, and discuss the outcomes of using Dolby Atmos for composition and what it means for audio production.

It was great fun to compose the immersive soundscape intro for iyO One, the worldโs first audio computer. Itโs the first thing users experience when they put on this amazing device. We also designed the 3D notification sounds it uses. This is the highest quality in portable immersive audio today - and a lot more.
