We’re a little late sharing this one 🙈 but some good moments deserve to be posted anyway! On March 6–7, we hosted the youth workshop “Ieslēdz savu balsi. Esi. Radi. Veido!” (Turn On Your Voice. Be. Create. Build!) in Daugavpils together with @fondsinitium and students from @saulesskola . During the workshop, the participants explored how art can help express ideas and experiences, and how a personal impulse can grow into a work or event that speaks to others and strengthens community. What stayed with us most was how the participants described two key takeaways: a clearer sense of how to develop their ideas, and a new way of seeing familiar places as a source of creative inspiration ✨ 📸 @saulesskola

The final residency of Third Figure within the @movingidentitieseurope program has come to an end. We spent it in Belgium, at @kunstplaatsvonk an art space in the small city of Hasselt – where we met wonderful artists and also managed to visit Antwerp several times. There, we experienced the performance 'A Rite of Spring' and briefly met representatives of the legendary @fcbergman team and powerful @williamludwiglutgens . Above all, however, in peaceful surroundings we continued working, this time with slightly different goals. More precisely, we explored what else we can do with our human-sized puppets, without trying at all costs to connect content with form. In my opinion, in visual theatre it is important from time to time to step back from content and ask yourself simple questions: - What is it that my eyes want to see? - What attracts my attention, and why? - How far can I immerse myself in the aesthetics of an image without thinking about immediate justification? And the answers don't need to be rushed. They arrive on their own. Much like in a gallery with paintings – we moved from one moving image to another and allowed ourselves to linger, even if their meaning did not reveal itself immediately. Well then – the work continues, and we keep refining our visual language. A huge thank you, @tine_deboelpaep , for your incredible support! We truly can't imagine how we would have managed without you. Stay tuned. :)) P.S. Information about the performance 'A Rite of Spring'. If you get the chance, I recommend seeing it: https://www.operaballet.be/en/programme/season-2025-2026/a-rite-of-spring

Spring is coming, but it still feels like yesterday we were in the snow, working with our brave puppets. @davvi_scene , Hammerfest, Norway. After finding the spirit within the fragments, we started asking – how do we move together? Through Aigars and Jordi's conversational language, we search for a shared dialogue between body and puppet. 📸 @danil_roekke #contemporarypuppetry #theatre #residency #workinprogress

On Friday it was World Theatre Day and we’ve been thinking about the impact of theatre arts on our lives 🎭 From the first meet officially as a group as part of #movingidentitieseurope back in September , our project has been a journey of passion, collaboration, and storytelling. In Riga, we began working with that initial spark of an idea with no boundaries, without fixed intention and allowed it to unfold into something tangible. This is one of the most freeing moments in any process, where everything feels possible and nothing is off limits. We spent hours in conversation, drifting through thoughts, shaping and reshaping a concept that had lived quietly in our minds for so long. Through contemporary puppetry, we searched for ways to give form to these feelings. These images are fragments from that time. 📸 @sandislazda

Today and tomorrow at the New East Cultural Institute in Daugavpils we open a two-day creative workshop for young people — a space to explore how personal experience can become art, and how art can become action. Together with artists @veronika_abdul_visocka and @edgarsniklasons , participants will experiment with movement, text, image and performance to transform ideas, emotions and everyday stories into artistic expression. The workshop invites young people to question familiar narratives, discover their own voice and explore how creativity can strengthen communities and make the world more inclusive. On the second day the workshop will also welcome Jana Geldnere, writer and interdisciplinary artist from Germany, currently in residence at the New East Artist Residency. Through collaborative exercises, dialogue and artistic experimentation we will explore how stories that often remain unheard can find new forms and new audiences. This event takes place as part of the collaboration between New East and @fondsinitium , bringing together artists and young participants to explore creative expression and community dialogue. In November, within the framework of the @movingidentitieseurope project, we hosted the Norwegian artist group @abjectifiedshow . Over the course of two weeks at Rucka Manor, the artists developed a performative research project focused on the relationship between the human body and the theory of the four humors, which explains physical and emotional states through the balance of blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. The research explored how these internal balances and imbalances influence movement, presence, and affective experience within the performative process. The emerging artwork is also characterized by an engagement with layers of identity and elements of transformation, adding an additional aesthetic and conceptual dimension to the process. The project is funded by @creative.eu , and its activities in Cēsis are also supported by Cēsu Kultūras pārvalde. The project focuses on interdisciplinary artistic practice, questions of identity, and the development of contemporary performing arts forms within a European collaborative network.
