Bringing together five emerging musicians from the Focusyear program at @jazzcampus , the ensemble will present two evenings of original music, improvisation and contemporary jazz.

an intense and joyful audition weekend for the 10th edition of @focusyear in Basel is over. We are thankful for all the good spirits, stories and dreams. it means a lot to us that musicians are making the journey for these auditions from all over the world, bringing their musical dialects. the new band will be announced in a few weeks.
I had a great time coaching the Focusyear band in Basel this week — it was real pleasure working with this talented bunch of young musicians and seeing my music come to life! A huge Thank You to Sarah Chaksad and everyone at Basel Jazzcampus for inviting and hosting me and to the band for all the hard work!
As it sometimes does, the universe threw in a little gravy last night, meaning I was to be able to catch a bit of my friends’ Skúlli Sverrissen/Oskar Guðjónsson’s beautiful set at Bird’s Eye and hang out for a while afterwards.
This rounds up a fulfilling trip, that included a performance with friends Ab Baars/Ig Hennemann/Tom Rainey/ Michael Moore; a family visit; a duo concert at JOE Festival Essen with Tom and the absolutely rewarding project with the Viennese Ensemble Studio Dan + Tom Rainey who played my newest piece “Torn” better than I could have ever hoped for!
All sorrow and worries about the world aside, this is a moment I find myself feeling blessed and full of gratitude!
