✨ Volunteer Spotlight ✨
Meet Karen Lock, a dedicated volunteer who’s been part of the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery community since the very beginning in 2012. From helping guide school groups to supporting educational experiences, Karen has played a meaningful role in bringing discovery to life for countless visitors.
You’ll often find her in the Heritage Courtyard, where she loves connecting with guests and watching young learners light up as they experience something new. Her passion for history shines through - she counts the museum’s history exhibits and the Funky Forest among her favorites, along with the unforgettable Pterosaurs special exhibit.
Karen’s love for community extends beyond the museum. She enjoys spending time with family, traveling, golfing, and volunteering in local schools. A proud Fort Collins native, she even has a personal piece of history preserved in our Archives & Collections.
When asked why museums matter, Karen shared:
“It is a shared experience that gives society a way to let people experience the past, learn about subjects they never otherwise would have contact with, and to learn from our environment. The world needs repositories for the arts and sciences - and museums fill that very important niche.”
Thank you, Karen, for your time, energy, and heart. We’re grateful for all you do 💙

We’re grateful for another wonderful Autism Resource Fair at FCMoD 💙
More than 770 community members joined us for a day focused on connection, learning, and celebrating the neurodiverse community. It was a meaningful and inspiring experience for all who attended.
A special thank you to Temple Grandin and our three youth interviewers for bringing thoughtful perspective to the conversation.
We’re also thankful for our partner Emily Daniels and the support of The Associated Students of Colorado State University for helping make this event free and accessible once again.
A big shoutout to @drawingsbytrent for joining us - your work and presence added so much to the day.
We also appreciate the generous meal support from The Colorado Trust and Care Options for Kids.
Thank you to everyone who participated - we look forward to seeing you again next year!
Big love to everyone who showed up and showed OUT for our FocoMX takeover at FCMoD 🔥
We packed the museum with 4 stages of emerging artists, transforming every corner into a live, breathing celebration of sound and creativity. From start to finish, the energy was unreal.
We witnessed pure magic in the Instrument Garden—watching folks jump in, explore, and make music together in real time with @boredomfightersfoundation & @circlesdrumsamples . There was no better way to introduce our newest space, Spotlight Studio, in the Music Zone.
To all the artists and bands who graced our stages: your talent is undeniable. We’re honored to be part of your journey and can’t wait to see where you go next.
Huge thanks to our sound engineers, stagehands, staff, and volunteers - you made it all happen behind the scenes, and it did not go unnoticed.
And a special thank you to Visit Fort Collins for supporting this vision and helping make this FREE day of music and community possible.
This is what it looks like to Find Your Way at the Museum. 💫

DanDan brings the vibe. Blending house, techno, and indie dance, his sets are all about connection, movement, and losing yourself in the moment. We kicked off Volunteer Appreciation week with an unforgettable Volunteer Appreciation Party at Odell Brewing Company 🍻
It was a joy to come together, share some laughs, and celebrate the incredible community that makes FCMoD so special. Moments like these remind us just how lucky we are to have such passionate, dedicated volunteers.
In 2025, 171 volunteers contributed over 7,700 hours of service—supporting more than 99,000 museum visits, including 32,000+ free and reduced visits through our Discovery for All programs.
All of this impact starts with you. We’re so grateful for the energy, care, and joy you bring to everything you do. More appreciation to come this week! 💫
