“I’ve Never Really Liked Flowers” by Jailyn Lewis
This dress collection, sewn by Jailyn Lewis, personifies the strength that a flower shows after an exhausting journey of being picked. By displaying pleats within gowns, to signify the loss of petals and value of a flower, “I’ve Never Really Liked Flowers” puts the viewers in the perspective of a “florist”. The goal of this line is to use the decay of a flower as a metaphor for the mental impact that comes from “being picked” as a woman. Each gown represents a different phase in this journey, all the way from feeling seen to ultimately feeling a loss of your worth. However, “I’ve Never Really Liked Flowers” most importantly symbolizes a story of growth and self-fulfilment by ending the journey with a proudly rebloomed and mature “floret.”
