We continue our feature on Franklin Marval @fmarval 🎨
Venezuelan-born graphic designer, muralist, sign-maker, community activist, and neighbor here in Dorchester.
Franklin Marval paints hearts 💙💛❤️ for a living and use them as reminders that “more love is okay” and to be present—focusing on the positive in life.
During our visit to Cyanta Studio, Franklin talks about keeping open an arts school for children in need in Venezuela, painting flowers on top of vintage action movie posters in the CK bathroom, and how art becomes a way to imagine a more loving future.
Franklin shared with us about his thoughts of the theme of ‘Roots to Rise’, “We the people who come from somewhere else sometimes we feel like we do not belong. There is something I say to myself, ‘I’m from here, I’m from there. I’m from everywhere.’ We don’t push people away. We accept people from where they are coming from. We accept people where they are living. We belong everywhere.”
Roots to Rise series—celebrating the creatives who’ve grown with us and continue to shape our shared sense of place.
Meet Franklin Marval, a Venezuelan-born artist and designer whose work is shaped by nature, music, and the search for connection. @fmarval grew up between the Caribbean coast, the mountains, and the countryside, and those landscapes taught him to see nature as both a refuge and a guide. Today he brings that same spirit into his paintings, public art, and community projects in Boston.
Franklin’s print “Love Sign” is a celebration of compassion and collective care. He first created it while processing the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, using the image as a way to honor the good that still exists in the world. The message is simple and powerful: more love is always welcome. This piece is a reminder to notice the kindness around us and to keep sharing it forward.

Meet Franklin Marval—Venezuelan-born artist, designer, and founder of Cyanta Studio @cyanta.studio .
Raised in San Tomé, Venezuela, Franklin’s love for landscapes and nature continues to shape his visual language. After the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, he began incorporating hearts into his work as a daily practice of healing—an ongoing reminder that More Love Is Okay @moreloveisok ❤️
Today, that message lives across murals, design projects, public art, and community workshops encouraging unity, celebrating diversity, and leading with positivity. Through his studio he offers his talents and graphic design services. We actually have the pleasure of working with Franklin on several art and design projects at Comfort Kitchen including menu designs and our ceiling mural.
