Growing Pains: After a very challenging year, I knew I wanted to slam the door shut on 2025, I just didn't know how I was going to do it. After it became evident that NYE at YEMSG with Phish was too damn expensive, I started exploring other last minute options. Suddenly, the choice was such an obviouous no brainer, I can't believe I didn't recognize it sooner. If I *truly* wanted a rock 'n' roll New Year's party to FULLY clean the slate, to let it all hang out, to really turn the page on a long and heartbreaking year, then Andy Frasco & The UN was the ONLY game in town worthy of my personal standards. Featuring a whisky bottle full of Jameson, Caleb Hawley (keys/guitar), Sam Kelly (saxophone), Floyd Kellogg (bass), Andee Avila (drums), Andrew Cooney (guitar) and one of my personal favorite NY-based players, Mike Gantzer of Aqueous and Death Kings fame, Andy Frasco & Company absolutely blew the ever loving roof of the damn Brooklyn Bowl. Playing all my favorite originals, teasing Tweezer, covering Rage Against the Machine, Talking Heads, Steve Miller, David Bowie and more until at least 2am, it was EXACTLY the performance I needed it to be. Easily the best decision I made all year, so far, Cheers to #AFUN for kicking 2026 off on a proper high note and a sincere congrats to Andy on this weekend's deluxe release of the "Growing Pains" album. Those live acoustic tracks are just beautiful and really bring attention to just how effective simple and clear communication can be.
