We’ve been designing some playful spaces for @sandcreekgreenway Partnership’s “Many Destinations” project at Wetland Park in Commerce City! 🌾✨ 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽Through a multi-year engagement process, community members came together to shape the reactivation of the greenway through a series of public spaces that inspire exploration along the trail. We are honored to help bring their visions to life! ☀️ Located along a wetland loop trail, these playful spaces were inspired by the surrounding landscape and the simple nostalgia of a childhood tree swing. 🌳 The result is a contemporary play experience that feels woven into the ecology and character of the greenway itself. This project was such a fun collaboration from start to finish! Huge thanks to @playlsi and @rockymtnrec for helping bring these custom play elements to life. We can’t wait to see people explore, play, and connect in these spaces in the future! 🛝🏃🏽‍♀️🦋

Our team spent a winter afternoon at @denverbotanic exploring plant diversity and seasonal interest in a quieter time of year! ❄️🌿 We caught the first blooms of early spring alongside plants that hold unique structure year-round, from striking bark and branching patterns to seed heads that persist through the season. We even got to see the aftermath of DBG’s annual burn! 🌱 These educational visits help inform how we design for year-round interest, ensuring our landscapes remain resilient and engaging in every season. Grateful for time together outside the office, learning from the land and deepening our plant knowledge! 📚✏️

We’re excited to share one of our recently built projects, Theodora Family Hotel! 🎉🎉🎉 Located in Denver off West Colfax, Theodora Family Hotel is Volunteers of America’s non-congregate family shelter designed to provide stability, safety, and supportive services for Denver families and veterans transitioning out of homelessness. 🏡🛏️ Through thoughtful collaboration, Flow Design Collaborative shaped a series of trauma-informed, welcoming outdoor spaces that support rest, play, and connection. At the heart of the courtyard is a distinctive butterfly-shaped structure, serving not only as a play element, but also as a symbol of transformation and renewal, reflecting the journey of residents as they move toward their next chapter with greater healing and possibility. 🦋 Thank you to our project partners @shopworks_architecture @voacolorado @earthscapeplay @starplaygrounds @sitepieces for coming together to create this meaningful place for our community! We’re honored to work alongside people who share a commitment to creating spaces rooted in dignity and belonging. Visit our website via the link in our bio to learn more about this project. Our Flow team gathered in Estes Park this fall for our annual retreat, a few days to slow down, reconnect, and deepen our understanding of the work. 🏔️🌲 We opened the retreat by working together to plant willow stakes in the hopes of restoring beaver habitat. 🦫 We also learned more about one another, sharing where we come from and where we hope to go, both personally and collectively. Between meaningful conversations about the future of Flow, a group hike through the mountains, and plenty of food and laughter around the campfire, the retreat reminded us that strong work is built through strong relationships. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 Thank you to the team for pulling this amazing retreat together! We are so grateful for our Flow family, this time together, and the ways that we continue to grow! 🌱🌟

Construction is progressing on an exciting Flow project: Two Creeks Park! ☀️ With an original master plan completed in 2013 and construction breaking ground this spring, Two Creeks Park represents long-term commitment to ecological healing, community connection, and access to meaningful nature in the city. 🌿💧   Situated along Wadsworth Blvd in a historically industrial corridor, this site has long been shaped by disturbance and urban development. Today, it is being transformed into a restored riparian landscape, reconnecting water, soil, plants, wildlife, and community in a part of Lakewood in need of more neighborhood park space and accessible connections. 🦋🌳   Living spaces are starting to take shape throughout the landscape. Native plant communities are beginning to establish along the creek, marking the early stages of a living, resilient ecosystem. And the playground is almost complete, designed to echo the movement of the creek, with flowing forms and layered elevation changes that invite young people to play in rhythm with the landscape around them. 🛝🤸‍♂️ Through thoughtful collaboration, the project team created a design that will: - stabilize soils and improve water quality - increase biodiversity and ecological resilience - offer a place for connection to nature in an urban context - create a landscape that inspires playfulness and creativity   These are small seeds of transformation 🌱 a reminder that restoring land also restores relationship.   Thank you to the incredible team who has made this work possible: @cityoflakewood @milehighflooddistrict #edgecontracting @ero_resources_corporation @playlsi @twoforkscollective , ForeverLawn Mile High, Loewen Engineering, enLighten Engineering, Kumar & Associates, Inc., San Engineering 📸 Photography by @4blades_digital   We look forward to welcoming neighbors into this beautiful community park when it opens next year!

Our team recently took a Flow Friday Field Trip to visit our neighbors at the @csuspur campus, and we felt like kids at a museum again, exploring and getting inspired by the incredible programming, research, and land-based work happening across the campus. 🌾💧 From rooftop agriculture and hydroponic systems to native seeding areas and community-led art, we explored how the campus integrates research, public engagement, and ecological design into a living classroom. While we may have been partial to the Terra Building — exploring their green roof and water quality gardens — we had a blast across the whole campus, from interactive learning stations to the river hydraulic modeling play table (yes, designers get excited about water flow too!). We left energized by the ways Spur is modeling regenerative design and hands-on learning for the next generation of land stewards, and by the potential for deeper collaboration between design and education. 📚🌱

Our Flow team recently had the opportunity to tour the Denver Water facility, learning first-hand about their approaches to native seeding, water conservation, and improving biodiversity within the Denver. 💧🌱 From experimenting with native seed mixes to reducing long-term irrigation demands across larger municipal sites — the work happening at @denver_water is a great example of what water stewardship can look like in Denver. We left inspired by the possibilities for more resilient, regenerative landscapes in our cities and neighborhoods, and grateful to the Denver Water team for sharing their knowledge and opening the doors for deeper partnership. Water is vital to the existence of every being, so let’s continue to be creative and intentional in the way we design our communities! 🌎

Our annual Flow Picnic was a success! 🍂☀️ Last month, we gathered at Congress Park for a heartfelt celebration of the great work we’ve been doing these past few months and a chance to share a meal with the friends, collaborators, and families who make it all possible. We caught up over delicious food, swapped stories, and enjoyed Flow-tailored Bingo, root beer “Flowts”, and seed packet giveaways! 🌱 Between the shared laughter and great weather, the picnic was an evening full of warmth and connection. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and made it so special. This is what community looks like, and we’re so grateful to be growing it alongside an amazing group of people. 💛

Our neighbors (and frequent collaborators) at @shopworks_architecture recently released their stunning new book, Designing for Dignity, and we couldn’t be more proud to see their powerful vision brought to life in print. 🌿📘 It’s been a true honor for our team at Flow Design Collaborative to contribute to the broader conversation around what it means to design with dignity— not just in buildings, but in the landscapes and public spaces that shape daily life. We’ve also had the privilege of working on the landscape design for several of Shopworks’ transformative projects. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽🏘️ Working alongside a team so deeply committed to protecting, promoting, and celebrating the dignity of life has been both inspiring and humbling. Their work reminds us that design is not just about aesthetics. It’s about empathy, equity, and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, safe, and valued. Congratulations, Shopworks! This is a beautiful and meaningful achievement, and we’re so grateful to be part of the journey. 👏✨
