While the stars of Flots are definitely the cushions themselves, we thought it was time to introduce ourselves - Josie & Sophie the duo (literally in this photo) behind the brand.
Josie is a weaver and textile artist (@studiomond___ ), and Sophie is an interior designer and co-founder of @owldesignlondon . We met in our adopted home of Margate and instantly bonded over our love of all thing’s sea, nature and organic shapes.
The Flots aesthetic is inspired by the natural beauty of Margate’s beaches while brainstorming on beach walks- rippling sand formations, washed-up peculiar sea creatures, the wavey shapes of rolling tides, and the pastel-hued expanse of the Thanet skies.
Our goal for Flots is to elevate the humble cushion to objet d’art, something to be cherished for decades, not discarded with the next trend. Playful, but timeless.
Each cushion is lovingly handmade in Margate. We’re committed to creating pieces that are as sustainable as they are beautiful. It’s a learning journey, and we’re always looking for ways to improve. For instance, we’ve recently swapped metal zips for fabric bows made from offcuts to tie the cushions. Small changes like these reflect our ongoing effort to reduce waste and create more thoughtful home decor. 🎀

We still have some mini’s available and can send the out for Christmas… As well as minis, we have now some weighted eye masks too!
The mini’s are filled with homegrown Margate lavender and are for placing by your pillows for a lovely nights sleep or placing in drawers to keep all your clothes smelling delicious 🪻
The eye masks also have some lavender added - ideal for much needed calming moments over the festive period 😵💫

Well we are doing one more market TODAY (Sat 13th) at @hoffs.margate and we are so excited, it’s starting to feel very Christmassy!
Pop down to see our dyes tones and get a look at the scale and quality of the Flots in real life. We also have something new for you too... 👀. As well as our mini scented Flots, we also now have some weighted, lavender scented, eye masks too. The perfect stocking filler or Christmas/birthday gift, or gift to yourself for those much needed post Xmas ‘me time’ moments 😅. Using waste material from their big sibling cushions they are ultra sustainable as well as beautiful 🌍
@sophievanwinden_design will be at Hoffs today 12-7 so why not pop down to get some Xmas pressies from an array of wonderful local makers and have a mulled wine while you shop

We have new members of the family! Filled with homegrown margate lavender and waste wool from the fashion industry, and using fabric left over from the unusual shapes of their bigger siblings, these little fellas are another step towards us being a zero waste homeware company.

After a longer than planned (but much needed!) summer break, Flots is back. We have got lots of exciting new things to share, but first off we are taking a look back to the beginning of summer at our party to celebrate the collaboration we did with our friends at @bottegacaruso . Thank you to all those that came, we love you 🥹.
There is still availability of their 2 dye colours, using pomegranate and artichoke waste from their kitchen, on the website. Plus avocado, bladderwrack seaweed and a new batch of the popular red cabbage.
Choose your shape, then the colour and we will make up your cushion just for you ☁️ .
