Last April, I had the pleasure of making a bespoke floral chiffon for Charlotte’s baby shower. Fast forward a year and a bit, and it’s already Luella’s first birthday! Charlotte reached out to me with a challenge - her dream was a swan cake 🦢🎀✨
Before I finished reading the rest of her email, I could already imagine it adorned with lovely ruffles of wafer paper - turns out Charlotte had the same idea, and had included our signature wafer ruffle cake as an inspiration image alongside some stunning buttercream swan cake sculptures.
I had never made any sort of sculpted or ‘novelty’ cakes before, so this was a completely new experience for me. I spent the weeks leading up to this cake searching for moulds I could use for the swan neck, googling swan images for reference and sketching out templates.
It all came together at the end; our swan was proportional (she almost wasn’t!), every ruffle laid over one another perfectly, and we made it in one piece to the loveliest venue @chiswickwoollahra and the perfect backdrop to our wafer swan, paired with the softest pink lemon madeleines baked earlier that morning 🌸💕
