We made a thing! When Ione Georgakis invited me into her research process, I couldn’t have anticipated how special it would feel to share our work with the community. Our protective fleece prototype includes hidden features informed by Ione’s extensive research into the experiences of people affected by tic-related pain and injuries (TRPI). The design aims to reduce the impact of involuntary movements while also offering elements of sensory regulation and comfort. As a designer and developer, I’ve already learned so much through this collaboration, met some incredible people, and genuinely enjoyed every stage of the process. A huge thank you to everyone who joined our informal focus group, supported by Tourettes Action, and so generously shared their feedback and experiences. I’m excited to take these insights forward into the next stage of development—fingers crossed for further funding!

I was delighted to receive my first MYOM brief from Studio Exception, who have been unbelievably supportive and generous in mentoring me through this project. Using their beautiful methodology, I have been working with an exceptional individual called Dominique. Together, we have been discovering ways to improve and sustain her access to dance - something which brings so much joy to her life on so many levels. The process has involved lots of long discussions over rose tea, countless fabric tests, vast amounts of textiles research, and so much laughter! I am in the final stages of this project, which is still expanding in unexpected directions. I have really enjoyed using The Exception Method, and letting things emerge in a way which has felt so natural and organic. @flomeredithdesign @studioexception

Materials have always been at the heart of my practice as a designer and maker. They shape ideas, solve problems, and just as often introduce new challenges. Working with a wide range of fabrics and materials, each with their own purpose and requirements, has been a continual learning process. How they’re cut, manipulated, finished, and cared for, as much as their aesthetic impact, has become a core part of my design process. My favourite moment is watching how different shapes and textiles behave on the body during prototyping and research. It’s in those hands-on early stages that solutions reveal themselves — ideas I could never have fully anticipated on paper. Through MYOM and the briefs I’ve been taking on, I’ve been exploring materials with a renewed focus: not just on form and function, but on how they can support positive social impact. @flomeredithdesign

Hi, I’m Flo! I am a designer, maker and educator working in Brighton and London. Through MYOM, I am exploring inclusivity, circularity, and technical performance through the lens of wearable design for movement. Using briefs set by industry, I am investigating ways in which I can remove barriers, discover sustainable solutions, and bring joy to the tactile experience of living in a body in the physical world. During this takeover I will be sharing some of my existing practice, what I am up to at MYOM, and what I think might be next. @flomeredithdesign

Excited to be a part of Sans Souci's online screendance festival "Shifting the Perspective". Watch the free screening online October 16 – October 29, 2024 and join us for an online artist Q&A today! Illuminating the possibilities for dance in dialogue with life and death, loneliness and secrets, language and persuasion, and presence and rumination, these films examine the spaces between disparate worlds both natural and constructed.

Process from the creation of Oblique Transmutations, summer 2022 Choreography by Heidi Rustgaard Set & Costume Design by Florence Meredith Lighting Design by Mickie Mannion Photography by Stephen Berkeley White Commissioned by Trinity Laban - BA3 Commissioned Work @heidirustgaard The process of creating this work was a continuous dialogue between choreographer, performer, and designer through not only words and movement, but physical materials. I was delighted by the open-minded way in which the performers responded to each renewal of costume/cloth throughout this collaborative, playful process, and took ownership of the world we created. #contemporarydance #sound #dance #costumedesign #design #costume Created and performed by Tayla Lee Anderson, Maria Vittoria Bortolotti, Samuel Carruthers, Molly Clark, Ruby De Ville Morel, Annabel Guest, Lea Kossain, Caitlin Lawther, Benedetta Leso, Isis Marksteder, Margherita Massarotti, Maea Morgan, Fabio Pronesti, Giulia Quacqueri, Angela Solazzo, Jasmine Springall, Olivia Grace Thompson, Holly Walton, Emma Willson, Alexandra Wright

Un - Sound, Transitions Dance Company, 2019/20 Photography by Rachel Cherry Choreography by H2 Dance Lighting Design by Mickie Mannion (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) @transitionsdc @h2dance___ The process of building this hairy, squarking, fantastical, colourful explosion was an absolute joy. Everyone was so open minded, willing, and patient. The result, captured brilliantly here by Rachel Cherry, was worth it! #contemporarydance #sound #dance #costumedesign #design #costume

Fabric samples for ‘un-sound’ a few years ago. The piece began with those muddy coloured, flat fabrics. Those contrasting bright, hairy textures emerged through the choreography of the brilliant @h2dance___ , and the fabulous movement of the dancers of @transitionsdc 2019/20. Such a satisfying collaboration 🧡 #fabricsamples #contemporarydance #dance #design #ideas #flight #birds #hair #costumedesign

You Tube Made Me Transitions Dance Company, 2018/19 Photography by Rachel Cherry Choreography and Direction by Hetain Patel Lighting Design by Mickie Mannion (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) @transitionsdc @patelhetain Working with Hetain and the company was a fascinating and fun process. As usual, lots of testing out ideas happened in the studio as this surreal piece was realised. Making the fabulous wigs and hairpieces work for the movement was quite a challenge, but anything is possible with smoke and mirrors (/a glue gun). Thanks to @klaralandinlarsson , @lucymintareeves and Lizzie Barker for some top costume making magic! #costume #costumedesign #costumejewelry #costumedesigner #dance #comedy #youtube #contemporarydance
