Gestern kamen die Fellows der @akademiesolitude zu Besuch auf der @katzenwedelwiese um sie als einen Ort kennenzulernen, der zwischen Natur- und Kultur-Praktiken angesiedelt ist. Nach einer Einführung zur Geschichte der Streuobstwiesen und der vergangenen Aktivierungen durch das @zkmkarlsruhe wurde der Ort durch automatisches Schreiben, Fotogafie und Sound-Recordings erforscht. Matthew Gandy's Text 'Queering the Transect' diente dabei als Ausgangspunkt für Gespräche rund um fragmentierte und plurale Formen der Wissensproduktion.
Im Anschluss trafen wir uns mit Kuratorin Mira Hirtz, die eine Einführung in die Ausstellung 'Assembling Grounds' gab und kamen mit ihr ins Gespräch über Praktiken der Koexistenz innerhalb und außerhalb eurozentrischer Diskurse.

Yesterday, the @akademiesolitude fellows visited @katzenwedelwiese to get to know it as a place in between natural and cultural practices. After an introduction to the history of orchard meadows and past activations by @zkmkarlsruhe , the site was explored through automatic writing, photography and sound recordings. Matthew Gandy's text “Queering the Transect” served as a starting point for discussions around fragmented and plural forms of knowledge production.
Afterwards, we met with curator Mira Hirtz, who gave an introduction to the exhibition “Assembling Grounds” and talked with her about practices of coexistence within and outside Eurocentric discourses.

Hier ein paar Eindrücke aus dem Fructopia-Workshop vom letzten Samstag im BämLab des @zkmkarlsruhe – ein Teil der Wiesenwerkstatt-Serie.
Durch Collage- und Storytelling-Techniken haben wir uns damit beschäftigt, wie die Streuobstlandschaft wieder stärker in den Stadtraum hineinwachsen kann. Gemeinsam haben wir öffentliche Orte in Karlsruhe neu zusammengesetzt und sind dabei ins Gespräch über die biodiverse Stadt von morgen gekommen.
Am 07.02. wird es nochmal einen Workshop geben, in dem wir mit den Materialien der Streuobstwiese Modelle und Skulpturen bauen. Er findet wieder von 14-17 Uhr als Teil der @zkm_muskom statt.

Eine herzliche Einladung zum Workshop am kommenden Samstag!
Dort werden wir mittels Collage und Storytelling-Übungen eine imaginäre Führung durch Karlsruhe zusammenstellen. Mit Schere und Kleber überwuchern wir die asphaltierten Flächen und stellen uns gemeinsam eine Stadt von morgen vor, die nicht nur Lebensraum für Menschen, sondern auch für Tiere, Pflanzen und Pilze bietet.

DE Am 18.12.2025 um 18 Uhr laden Konul Rafiyeva und Fabian Faylona @floaters_network zu einer textilen Teezeremonie auf die @katzenwedelwiese ein. Im Rahmen der Adventsfenster der Bürgervereine Bulach und Beiertheim gibt es ein warmes Getränk und die textile Installation auf der Wiese wird eingeweiht.
Inspiriert ist das Happening von der Patchwork-Technik Gurama, mit welcher sich Konul Rafiyeva in ihrer Arbeit als Kulturforscherin und Kuratorin befasst.
Fabian Faylona setzt diese traditionelle Reparaturtechnik erzählerisch und materiell in Beziehung mit den Pflegepraktiken der Streuobstwiese, welche er derzeit künstlerisch erforscht.
Die Veranstaltung findet auch bei schlechtem Wetter statt. In dem Fall bitte Regenschirme mitbringen. Fotos von @floaters_network
EN On 18 December 2025 at 6 p.m., Konul Rafiyeva and Fabian Faylona @floaters_network will be hosting a textile tea ceremony on the @katzenwedelwiese As part of the 'Advent windows' event organised by the citizens' associations of Bulach and Beiertheim, a warm drink will be served and the textile installation on the lawn will be inaugurated.
The happening is inspired by the patchwork technique Gurama, which Konul Rafiyeva enquires in her work as a cultural researcher and curator.
Fabian Faylona relates this traditional repair technique narratively and materially to the maintenance practices of the orchard meadow, which he is currently exploring artistically.

Opaque, Turbid, Situated
The program explores practices of knowing nature(s) beyond extractivism based on the concept of a ‘Right for Opacity’ (Édouard Glissant). As alternatives to modes of exploitation and reduction to the transparent, the concept invites us to nurture relations among humans by leaving space to the ungraspable. Extending this framework beyond the Human and tuned to the site of the Floating University, the artist-researchers propose turbid, situated and murky perspectives.
How can we “give up our obsession with discovering what lies at the bottom of natures”? Which modes of sensing can we employ to relate to each other and to our surroundings beyond seeking full transparency? And what are the problematics of translating the other-than-human?

Fabian Faylona will give some insight into his ongoing artistic research project „Field Notes on the Absent Other“. It explores the limits and potentials of representing marginal ecosystems, based around Édouard Glissant's concept of Opacity. The presentation will be followed by a guided tour around the muddy environment, engaging with hidden landscapes through modes of storytelling and collective imagination. The event is planned from 17:00-19:00 with more time for discussions and exchange afterwards.

One last shot of the bamboo furniture group I built during my stay in the Philippines in 2024. The desk marked the end of the process of reinhabiting an old stone house. Sofar the untreated bamboo holds up really well. The steel framework keeps it well above the ground, making it less attractive for termites. If some get eaten eventually, it will be easy replacing them as bamboo as a material is always available on site.

This chair takes the ideas of the initial stool into a more complex and ergonomic design. It is part of the same spatial concept, which plays with the use of bamboo in open spaces while extending the materials durability.
