In this 3-day educational seminar we explore rainwater as a life source, an urban challenge, and a key question to the city's future.
💧 Day 1 — Seeing, Hearing, Feeling Water
We begin at the rainwater retention basin of Floating e.V. in Kreuzberg, where an unique urban water ecosystem has emerged in a technical infrastructure.
🌿 Day 2 — Following Hidden Ponds
In Alt-Tempelhof, we trace the hidden paths of rainwater and discover ancient kettle lakes left behind by the Ice Age. Fed by groundwater and rain, these ecosystems are increasingly threatened by falling groundwater levels and sealed urban surfaces.
🏙️ Day 3 — Waterworks, Transformation, and Visions
At the Ökowerk in Grunewald — one of Berlin’s first waterworks sites — we look back at the technological history of urban water supply and forward toward possible rainwater futures.

The second stop of our itinerant conference, “In Context” will be organised by @spolka.cc and centres on practices rooted in place and locality.
We will reflect on the permeability of informal education to its surrounding environment, exploring how geography, social dynamics, and the built context shape our pedagogical approaches. We will also discuss how to build transnational alliances and define measures of impact that account for both collective transformation and individual growth.
This one-day event will be a space for discussion and practice.
We’re organising an online webinar to tell you all about our itinerant conference and how to participate on 18.05.2026 18:00 - 19:00. Link in bio to register 🔗
Other stops are organised with @floatinguniversity , @fablabtorino , and @hello_constructlab

Raum Halten – Sustaining Self-Organized Spaces
Saturday, 9th of May, 5pm
Make-up turns 5, and we take this as a moment not only to celebrate, but to reflect on the conditions under which self-organized art and cultural spaces exist today and their political role in the city.
diffrakt, Spoiler, floating and Make-up come together to discuss questions of self-organization, collective practice, and political positioning: How are these spaces organized? How do they finance themselves and build collective structures?
What conflicts and forms of exhaustion emerge in everyday practice and which solidarities endure?
In times of cultural budget cuts and increasing debates around censorship, the question arises anew: What role can and do self-organized spaces want to take on as political actors?
Between the precarity of those without ownership and resistance against it, this is also about networks, about how these spaces can not only survive, but actively strengthen one another.
Come by and join the discussion.

Von den Weinbergen zum Sammelbecken – Die Geschichte des Regenwasserrückhaltebeckens Kreuzberg
Samstag, 02.05.2026
3 Stunden, 15 – 18 Uhr
Kosten: 5 Euro
Treffpunkt: Am Tor der Floating University

EVERY MONDAY from 9 – 11 am at Floating University, Lilienthalstrasse 32, 10965 BERLIN
🗓 On April 13th we begin with:
>> Space for Practice 2026 <<
There is no need to register and participation is free of charge!
Space for Practice makes time and space for movement practice with/in the rainwater retention basin of Floating. It is a regular activity with/in irregular conditions such as weather, other activities and the presence of people, beings and materials. It is an occasion for practices to encounter a place, for choreographers to encounter practitioners, for practitioners to encounter the site of Floating and for the site to shape the practices.
This year’s edition is convened and facilitated in changing constellations by the Choreographic Milieu: Alice Chauchat, Clément Layes, Daniel Belasco Rogers, Gabriele Reuter, Ghyslaine Gau, Lea Martini, Paula Kramer and Sabine Zahn. We all offer proposals that stem from our respective practices/curiosities and from the site, whilst following each other’s traces.
We start on time at 9 am and all who are present hold the space collectively. All are welcome, regardless of whether you have experience with movement practices or not. Important is that we are all committed to working things out together.
Space for Practice 2026 runs from April 13 – October 12, 2026. We take a break on May 25 and during the summer from July 13 until August 17.
Please check Floating's Instagram feed and online calendar for updates.
