I’m finally making a dedicated circus account- please click follow if you want to continue seeing my circus endeavours. For any new faces, here’s a little about me.
I’m a Welsh aerialist based in Cardiff (the capital city of Wales 🏴 ). I started aerial at 26 (11 years ago!). Rope has been my obsession for the last 7 years, and I’ve been teaching aerial for 6 years.
Outside of circus, I have a PhD in integrative neuroscience and work in academic research. I’m currently researching how nutrition impacts brain development and mental health. I very much bring my science brain into circus. I love understanding movement pathways, biomechanics, and how bodies work, but also the pedagogy of circus and how I can best support students to reach their goals. I really love teaching, especially working 1:1.
So… why the handle floaerial? It’s not just another nod to flow states or flowy aesthetics (though I do love those too). Flo was my nickname at school and still is to a handful of old friends. Laura became Flora, which became Flo. It always felt more like me, and for a long time I said I’d change my name when I was old enough. When the time came, conventions (mostly relating to my career path) sadly got in the way.
I still connect with my identity as Flo… it feels like my more creative side, and the part of me that my aerial work really channels. As I’m sure so many can relate to, circus and movement is where I feel really alive ✨

Menywod yr Môr 🌊 Performing rope rigged off the pier, with sandy feet, live music and the sound of the sea was amazing. It was a delight to work with so many talented artists @splatch.splatch@kitchnsync@theteifiverse and others as part of To The Sea Festival.
Swipe to see a circa 1950 photo of my grandparents standing on the promenade above the very same pier 😊

More from this perspective. I feel like it captures more how rope feels. I love how much more you can appreciate the movement with and around the rope tail, and where we create shelves, more so than the traditional ‘right way up’ view. Maybe I’ll get future audiences to lay flat on the floor? #aerialrope #cordelisse #wormseyeview
