'Sweet Sounds' just turned four, and the Northern NJ Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota is ready to celebrate the anniversary. Author, journalist, and educator Flisadam (@flisadamp ) will sit with the ladies as part of their 'Sips And Spin' series for a fireside chat on Monday, February 16.
The event, which will be held at the Boathouse Cafe (@boathousecafe is inside of the located inside of 3rd Ward Park) at 350 Passaic Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey.
The night will feature some fun hometown trivia and a live set by DJ Honest D (@djhonestd ).
Copies of Flisadam's book 'Sweet Sounds: The ABCs of Black Women in Music' will be available for purchase.
Did you know the Whitney Houston, Sarah Vaughan, Queen Latifah, Dionne Warwick are all from NJ? 🩷 did you know the Shirelles were from Passaic? Jersey’s got legends to spare.
To celebrate Black History Month, we’re honoring Black Women in music on Monday 2/16! Join us for an author talk and trivia with flisadamp followed by @djhonestd on the 1’s and 2’s! Meet us at the @boathousecafe inside 3rd Ward Park in Passaic!
Brooklyn is becoming a second home to me and to COLORS, too. I covered COLORS' inaugural 'Tones Of NYC' showcase presented with SummerStage and in partnership with Halfmoon BK on behalf of @envertmedia . I am so grateful for the opportunity.
Khamari is back. I mean, y'all said y'all wanted real yearners, right?!?! I had the fortune of attending Khamari's private listening session for his latest album 'To Dry A Tear.' A magical evening filled with dope industry friends and whimsical music.
We're moving on up over at ENVERT (@envertmedia ). Last month, I was granted the opportunity to photograph Soulection In The Park held inside of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens. Beyond grateful to have documented sets by Odeal, Kwn, Joe Kay, Descendants, Benji B, Zane Lowe, and Gia Fu 🙏🏾
The 2025 Newark Black Film Festival was yet another one for the books. But according to TikTok, there's nothing to do in Jersey... Anywho, this year I attended:
- The featured screening of 'Cooley High' followed by the Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony chat with its director Michael Schultz.
- The screening of 'Love, Brooklyn' and director chat with Rachael Holder.
- and the screening of 'Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story.'

Baltimore, what's good?! So, I took a quick trip down to B-More for #Artscape2025 because for some cruel punishment I still can't seem to get my hands on Tanner Adell concert tickets. But, the trip was 100% worth it. Sunsets on the harbor, live music, freshly caught food, surrounded by Black culture, and art history...I couldn't have asked for more.
Sadly, my time at UPROXX has come to an end. I am extremely grateful for the nearly three-year run I spent as a music news writer and a short stint as interim social media manager. I've grown tremendously as a journalist while making so many invaluable connections.
After taking the time to privately process this professional detour, I am truly ready for what God has in store for me. In the meantime, I am open to freelance opportunities/contract work (concert photography, copywriting, op-eds, digital script writing, interviews, etc).
Mereba set Webster Hall ablaze alongside Anaiis as part of her 'Breeze Grew A Fire Tour,' I photographed and wrote all about it over on ENVERT.
Thank you again, @mereba , for the opportunity to document your magic.
Durand Bernarr is indeed an experience and photographing his #YouGonGrowTooTour stop with special guests Nore Davis and Gawd at Warsaw was too!
Grateful for the opportunity and hospitality shown by Durand's team.
