We had the sheer pleasure to create a series of 9 animations to support the @campers_code —9 simple-to-follow, common sense rules to camp responsibly. Our goal: make it clear that camping responsibly is actually kinda easy. And doing it is good for you, for fellow campers, and for Mother Nature too. The first in the series dropped today. Brand strategy. It’s the most overlooked part of brand creation, in our opinion. It’s also one of the most valuable foundational elements of your brand. (So, uhm, maybe don’t skip it.) The thing is this: a brand can be beautiful and creative and incredible and, heck, even successful without a brand strategy. What the strategy does is grounds the brand. It gives it a foundation. It sets a tone and a direction. It clarifies exactly what the brand is, who it’s for, why it exists, where it’s going, and how it’s going to get there. It’s a road map for brands that want to move forward with conviction and intention, rather than “winging it”. It is about 40 pages of clarity. It is a big, whopper of an Aha moment. And Ahas open doors for some focused and fabulous brand work moving forward. Brand Strategy is the horse. Brand is the cart. So, brand strategy first. If you missed the memo the first time and your brand is already on the willy-nilly, go-with-the-flow plan, you can always always go back, rebuild the foundation, and find a clear path forward from here. #brandstrategy #greatcreative #strategyfirst #brandpositioning

When we say we stand for Great Creative, that we deliver Great Creative, and that we settle for nothing less than Great Creative, we mean it. To us, Great Creative means that every single piece of creative we send out into the world no matter how small (favicon) or how big (international campaign creative) is creative that we would sign our names to. We are that proud of it. That confident in it. We do not deliver crap. If we don’t love it, we don’t send it. Period. To achieve Great Creative we choose to say No to two things that are often asked of us: Be cheap and be fast. Cheap does not support great creative. Fast does not support great creative. These cannot exist together. So we choose to be thoughtful and intentional. And to leave mediocrity for the mediocre. One of our lines in the sand as a Certified #BCorp is to choose to work with companies with heart only. @bewildher is that company to a tee. Every marketing decision that Bewildher makes is rooted in two things: (1) empowering women and (2) honouring the planet. We worked with Nadine at Bewildher to bring her vision of sustainable, reusable packaging to life. All the props goes to Nadine. She realized that most people throw out the hang tags on garments they purchase; however, the information (washing instructions) is important to convey because it impacts the longevity of the garments she makes and sells. She asked herself “How do we give them this information without making more waste?” Enter the motivating, inspiring, double-sided, laundry room sign. We brought Nadine’s vision of a reusable and reversible insert to life. It’s both a laundry room sign AND life inspiration—Care instructions on the back; a little pep talk on the front. For those who still want to throw this away, good news: It’s 100% recyclable. Little decisions like this have big and long lasting impact. 15 years. Whoa. We’ve been kicking around for 15 years. We’ve come a long way from a one-girl-with-conviction-shop, a laptop off eBay, and the coffee table in Mom’s basement. And we’re proud of it. Immensely. Thank you to every client who ever trusted us with their dollars and ideas. That trust is a really big and valuable gift. And we are ever grateful. Thank you for letting us strategize, ideate, write, design, develop, and create for you. Thank you to every Flipside teammate who ever added their talent to our work. We’ve worked with incredible humans with big hearts and lotsa talent over the years. Every single one of them made an impression—on us and on our clients. And for the ones who’ve since left, we still watch them like a proud mama bird—with pride and joy. Every Flipsidian is a rare gem. We feel so damn lucky. Thank you to you all. Oh, our hearts! When a bold, brave woman comes to us with a 20-year vision ready to come alive and the utmost respect for the creative process, we thank the Universe for bringing us together. We met Laura of @virchewdogs last year and it was kismet. She’s the mastermind behind Virchew, plant-based food for dogs. She’s spent 20 years building the business, doing the research, testing recipes with her own dogs, connecting with veterinarians, recording data, and just loving the crap outta dogs and the planet with such passion that it’s impossible not the respect the hell out of this woman and what she’s created. We worked with Laura to take the brand assets she had already—logo and phenomenal illustrations—and turn them into a brand. This included: - Primary and secondary palettes - Fonts - Shapes and arcs - Tagline (Dogs chews plants) - Photography direction And it’s all coming together. We have some really exciting pieces cooking for Virchew as they continue to expand throughout the Lower Mainland in BC. As Laura and her pup Seva say: Woofhoo!

This woman. She’s a force. Such a force in fact that today is her last day at Flipside because she’s off to achieve dreams in a way that serves her soul. And we are so proud of her! (We also want to tether her to her desk and never let her go but... the law. So, we’re cheering from the nest as one of our fave birds flies into the sunset.) Thank you, Myra, for your sunshine and smile and verbose emails and bajillions of questions because you just want to get it right and authentic enthusiasm. Thank you for creating deep and meaningful relationships with our team and our clients and our vendors. All of whom are Myra fans for life. We threw you in the deep end when you first arrived and you took it like a pro synchro-swimmer. It was impressive to say the least. We loved having you on our team. Like all caps LOVED!! Visual consistency is everything.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’re gonna say it again so it really lands:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Visual consistency is everything.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One more time for the people in the back:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Visual consistency is everything.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When building awareness, recognition, and trust, a great starting point is to ensure creative is consistent across media. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we were tasked to expand upon @bc_transplant ’s National Organ Transplant Donation Awareness Month creative this year, we started the creative extension with the most important part: the foundational elements of the campaign. The roots. The bones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The campaign creative up until now had been primarily print-based with bus advertising taking center stage. It was time to go digital—with visual and contextual consistency (and a little flair for good measure).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Social media is not meant to be one-dimensional; neither are leading brands. Posting the same kinda thing with the same kinda look over and over gets old. So we hooked BC Transplant up with a variable social library, including static posts, animations, and infographics, too. They used this to spread the word about the importance of registering as an organ donor in a variety of ways to a variety of demographics with an end goal of resonating with the largest number of people. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We designed and wrote 12 different posts in four categories to create a wholistic Instagram feed for the campaign that aligned with campaign elements of years past. Forward-thinking and rooted in consistency. We’ve been working with the folks at BC Transplant (@bc_transplant ) for the past three years on their National Organ Transplant Donation Awareness Month campaign. It’s a collaboration that moves us every time, because we believe in it so deeply. We added animation to our #TakeTwoMinutes campaign this year to help tell the stories of organ donation recipients in new and interesting ways. We built the animations using the campaign graphic style and voice that we created first in 2019—so this year’s work is an obvious visual extension of the campaign. We penned scripts using real stories from real people and honed in on the butterfly effect of organ donation—how a donated organ gives more than just life to the recipient, but also gives to that person’s family, friend, community, colleagues, and more.
