Sold Out: On Friday, March 20th Mono Space presents 𝘈 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 with Matt Fleeger and Anthony Dean-Harris.

Longtime Program Director, Matt Fleeger is set to leave KMHD in a few days, here are his favorite moments from 17 years: 1. Ahmad Jamal. I had the pleasure of spending an hour alone in a studio with one of my heroes. 2. esperanza spalding. When I first met her, she was 25 years old, and had yet to win a Grammy. Watching her career evolve and grow has been a blessing. 3. Khruangbin in-studio DJ set. When they came on to share an all-vinyl DJ set with us on New Jazz For Lunch, they were the opening act for Chicano Batman. 4. Jeff Parker. Jeff has been at KMHD a few times, and was always a beautiful, soulful person to be around. 5. Albert “Tootie” Heath. Just before this photo was snapped, he told me the dirtiest joke I’ve ever heard. 6. BadBadNotGood. Another frequent guest to KMHD, and a band that shaped the trajectory of modern Jazz. 7. Kassa Overall. Kassa rode down with his mom to KMHD (I’d just seen him perform at WinterJazz). He’s someone who truly represents to the future of the music. 8. Nellie McKay. She always told the funniest stories on the air and was a great person to walk in the park with. 9. Jack Dejonette. Just an absolute legend of the drums, another one of those humble heroes of the art form. 10. The Soul’d Out Festival. This festival ran for the first many years and was Jazz Without Boundaries before it existed.  I saw Prince, Maze and Frankie Beverley, Solange (who opened her ’seat at the table tour’) Roy Ayers, and many more! 11. Ravi Coltrane. Who was so giving with stories about his family, but also is a radio fan…had a special time interviewing him! 12. Monty Alexander. The amazing Jamaican pianist was one of my favorite conversations on the air. I can still hear his beautiful patois. 13. Randy Weston. I’ve always been a fan of his highlife meets Jazz fusion and he was literally a larger-than-life presence in our studios. 14. Bennie Maupin. Who told the most amazing story about John Coltrane. 15. Carlton Jackson. Who I miss dearly. He was a friend, mentor and someone I had the deepest respect for. 16. Tia Fuller. Tia! We had saxophone royalty in the studio that day! 17. The KMHD staff, I've been blessed to work with this amazing team!
