One year ago today and still doesn’t seem real. Every time I’m out in my yellow car taking a drive just to take a drive, I keep thinking I’ll see you around the next corner. Our air cooled slice of the hobby continues to not feel the same but I can say that I continue to feel grateful for the friendship and the mentorship. You were a good one, Mr Miller. You won’t be forgotten. #carguyforlife #waltdisneyimagineering #porsche911s #earlyporsche911 #early911sregistry
As we continue to pay tribute to our recently departed friend and AHRF team member, Jim Miller, we are finding some joy in sorting through the many photos we have of him. This January 2019 photo was taken at an AHRF Advisory Board meeting that was held during the weekend of that year’s Grand National Roadster Show. It shows Jim in one of his happiest places- visiting with heroes. Here we see him excitedly sharing in some storytelling with the wonderful Don Montgomery while Alex Xydias and Ed Iskenderian do the same, just to Jim’s left. We can’t say that we ever saw Jim happier than when he was getting to talk to such folks or getting to sit down and visit with a real-deal racer. With pouring over historic photos being the only thing we can think of to rival his level of joy at being in the presence of these heroes, seeing the look on his face in this image really captures how we’ll always remember him during these meetings. This day was a particularly special one, as we had the treat of full attendance from our Advisory Board at that time. This included, Greg Sharp, Ed Iskenderian, Alex Xydias, Ken Gross, Don Montgomery, and Steve Moal. It is a bitter-sweet thing to consider that all four men in this photo have now left us, as this day will always provide a wonderful memory for all of us. RIP- Jim Miller.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the American Hot Rod Foundation announces the passing of our long-time Curator and Archivist, Jim Miller, who died this morning at the age of 81. Having been a part of our team for over fifteen years, it has been Jim’s dedication to historical research and excellence in photo restoration that is responsible for the nearly 250,000 digitized images preserved in our archive. His work ethic, coupled with a deep knowledge that could only have come from growing up a third-generation racer, made Jim uniquely qualified to take on the task of building out a data base of hot rod history. We are forever in his debt and will find comfort in being able to share his work and legacy as we go forward. Our thoughts go out to Jim’s many friends in the automotive historian and racing communities, as well as to his wonderful sister, Jean, who cared for Jim during his final months. We will be paying tribute to Jim throughout these next few weeks and we hope that his friends and admirers will comment with any memories or tributes that they’d like to share. As for everyone here at the American Hot Rod Foundation, RIP- Jim Miller… we couldn’t have done this without you.
Shooting it up today in the garages with some lovely, guest machinery. Would be a shame if they got left behind :) Thanks as always to LA’s greatest film location service, CAST Locations, for another great booking. #castlocations #lafilm #porsche912 #triumphmotorcycles
Always a good time playing with my old friends, The Floating Men. Friday was Louisville and Saturday was Indy. Got to see even more old friends and family in both towns during the 72hr whirlwind before heading home tonight. Good times, all the way around! #thefloatingmen #headlinerslouisville #theturntableindianapolis
Getting ready to go live on the air at WFPK Louisville, Ky with the Floating Men. Super cool public radio station that plays great music and supports live music via these in-house concerts in what is a pretty cool little performance room. #thefloatingmen #wfpkradio #louisvillekentucky
Out of the blue gig tonight at the good ol’ Hotel Cafe with my friends Trey and Ashley with one of my all-time favorites on bass . . . Erik Kertes. Many good memories of playing gigs here back when this was more of a regular part of my life and am sad to hear this venue is going away. The good news is that it will relocate to another part of Hollywood proper. Tough times for live music venues but super happy to be here playing with some friends for a night. #sometimeswesingtogether #erikkertesplaysbass #hotelcafe
Although today’s date marks a sad anniversary, I was able to chuckle a bit when listening to the John Prine Live version of You Got Gold and hearing the line “It gives me an ocean of mixed up emotion”, because that’s exactly how I feel. Sad, still in disbelief, but eternally grateful for what his music has brought to the universe and how it affected my life. Hearing 25 year-old me and my electric guitar within this live recording is as hard for me to believe as is the fact that he’s gone. Again, a lot of mixed up emotions. . . but gratefulness and true joy continue to override. Thanks for all the Gold, JP!
We are super excited to announce that this beautiful 1930 AV8 roadster belonging to David Dreiling will be attending our upcoming Reliability Run on April 26th. Dave’s roadster is a real standout and was voted Hot Rod of the Month for July of 2021 by the American Hot Rod Foundation membership. A pretty cool honor for a very cool roadster. Dave runs an Edelbrock Slingshot atop his 59A with ’39 trans and a beautifully installed ’32 dash. Traditional components continue throughout but the attention to detail and high level of build is something to see to truly appreciate. If you’d like to join Dave and the rest of the folks taking on the Pasadena Roadster Club Reliability Run this year, time is a wastin’, as LAST DAY FOR SIGN UPS IS TOMORROW, March 31st!!! Don’t miss the 2026 PRC Reliability Run! Sign up today at </>.
All the way from Houston, Texas comes our buddy, Jim Jard, and he’s bringing what will probably be one of the more unique machines on this year’s Pasadena Roadster Club Reliability Run 2026 … a rare 1932 Ford panel truck. This is the official Bingham’s Bourbon delivery van but we’ll have to wait and see if it’ll be “carrying.” These ’32 panels are as rare as a Texas igloo and we can’t thank Jim enough for bringing this all the way from the Lone Star state to join in our fun. Now what are you waiting for? Sign up today at #pasadenaroadsterclub #pasadenaroadsterclubreliabilityrun2026
“The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” feat David Steele is out today wherever you like to listen 🎧 I believe this is one of the best heart break lyrics around, and that John Prine would think we do some justice to it.
So grateful for David and all I’ve learned from him - including unbelievable stories from being on the road with Mr. Prine.
Also big thank yous to:
@ryan_dilmore for recording (live) and mixing this track as well as filming 🤹,
@neufeldjon for mastering
& @autumn.fowler for design assistance
