Lucky to have spent the last 9 months playing with a whole bunch of very grown up toys as part of the 2025–2026 Virtual Production Fellowship Wales programme 🎬
During the training at @fivefold_studios with the @_finalpixel team I got to work with two huge LED volumes, one used as a backdrop and another used as a “wild wall” to create reflections and interactive lighting.
Here are some behind the scenes shots of my team and I creating “Head Rush”, a spoof advert about a man charging his phone using a windmill helmet ⚡️
“Break free from the outlet” and “Earn your charge” were two lines from the final advert that still make me giggle.
I had so much fun directing this project and collaborating with the team to create something we were all happy with.

A recent Virtual Production workshop at Fivefold Studios where Sunbelt Rentals Film & TV delivered the LED volume alongside camera and lens packages to support an immersive, in-camera VFX workflow 🎥
Attendees from the Virtual Production Fellowship explored the LED volume through hands-on ICVFX training, working on live briefs covering Unreal Engine, camera tracking, colour pipeline, and stage/volume control workflows. They collaborated with trainers to practice real-world VP operations, with a focus on cross-department coordination between VP, production, camera, lighting, and art departments.
The Virtual Production Fellowship is a fully funded, 9-month training programme for Wales-based screen professionals. Funded by Media Cymru and delivered by Final Pixel Academy with partners Fivefold Studios, Gorilla Academy and the University of South Wales.
It was an incredibly productive course and amazing to collaborate with the fantastic team at Fivefold Studios to support the next generation of filmmakers diving into virtual production.
