Our Edinburgh Showcase at The Signet Library offered a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of our collection up close and in person.

I’m going to start this by saying just how much I love engagement shoots. Truly — I love them.
There are so many reasons why. First, they give me the chance to really get to know my wedding couples in a way that simply isn’t possible without the shoot. The shared experience, the conversations along the way, the laughter and excitement all come together to create a connection that naturally carries through to the wedding day.
For me, an engagement shoot is also a chance to play. On a wedding day there’s rarely time to go off script — timings are tight and couples quite rightly want to spend as much time as possible with their guests. During an engagement shoot, though, we can do whatever we want. Try new ideas, explore different locations, and see what works best.
For my couples, it’s a relaxed opportunity to be in front of the camera with no pressure and no clock ticking. Almost without fail, those who book an engagement shoot as part of their package are noticeably more comfortable on their wedding day — and that comfort shines through in their photos. It also helps me learn what they love (and what they don’t). Some couples are all about the cuddles and kisses; others prefer something a little more natural or understated — and that’s absolutely fine.
After an engagement shoot, I always feel I have a much closer relationship with my couples. So when I arrive at a bride’s house or hotel on the morning of the wedding, it feels like I’m greeting an old friend. I know her, I know the person she’s about to marry, and I’m genuinely excited with them. And I know the photos are going to be something really special.
Kirsty and Paul’s engagement shoot is a great example of why I love these sessions so much. It was relaxed, easy, and very much *them* — lots of natural moments, good conversation, laughs and no pressure. I’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding later this year, and after spending this time with them, I know it’s going to be a good one.

Five things I loved about Sarah and Dave’s @dundascastle wedding:
1) Sarah asked their 7-year-old son to walk her down the aisle. Even now, many months later, the memory makes me well up.
2) A “more is more” flower brief, leading to colours and scents filling every space.
3) An activity-laden pre-wedding party meant that everyone knew each other and brought the best party energy to the wedding.
4) Perfect weather + gorgeous venue + lovely people = wedding photographer jackpot 😏
5) A spine-tingling Beating Retreat at the end of the night, accompanied by huge projections and pyrotechnics.

I have a special love for couples who travel far to get married in Scotland, bringing their own traditions and mixing them with old Scottish traditions. This American wedding at @hopetounhouse treated us to a number of American wedding traditions (a First Look, a Father/ Daughter dance, a Mother/ Son dance to name a few) mixed in with the Scottish ones (Tying The Knot ceremony, bagpiping, ceilidh dancing) creating a day that felt familiar and new, and entirely unique. 💚💚💚
