Thank you @latingrammys for nominating our music video for @gaby_moreno “LAMENTO” ❤️ The extended cut is nominated for a Long Form Music Video. This was a true passion project, made possible by friends and crew in our beautiful Guatemala, and so many talented companies and individuals around the world who joined in over two years to bring it to life. As a Guatemalan immigrant who moved to the US now 20 years ago, I’ve always dreamed of telling stories from the place that shaped me. We filmed in the ruins of Turicentro Likin — a once-beloved beach resort from our childhoods, now almost swallowed by the sea. I remember swimming there with my family in the late ’80s, watching the violent ocean crash into walls — the beginning of its downfall. For me, Likin becomes a metaphorical symbol of home, family, culture — the essence of who we are. LAMENTO is about preserving those memories before they fade. A reminder to never forget who you are, and to always carry a piece of home with you, no matter how far life takes you. One of the buildings I had seen and photographed on my first visit just a few years back was now gone— entirely swallowed by the sea.
