Fireburn groundings: An Evening School on Blackness and Abolition with Marquis Bey
Groundings is a Black Caribbean concept that means the act of coming together in humility and openness in order to create an understanding of a concept or struggle. It is through this grounding that we can better see how we can shed light on and fight the colonial system, while we empower ourselves.
Fireburn Library would like to invite our BIPOC communities to an evening school on Blackness and Abolition with Marquis Bey, comrade and professor of Black Studies, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and English at Northwestern University. Through this evening school, Marquis will invite us to think critically about constructing a world without punitive systems such as borders, schools, prisons, etc, while asking us to reflect on the role of anti-Blackness in society and movements.
Bring your activist group, organisation, collective, lovers, and friends and let’s share, learn and grow together!
Drinks & snacks will be provided and a pay-what-you-can community dinner from 19:00.
