The rose has always been my teacher.
It carries the contradictions I live ~ softness that cuts, beauty that bleeds, grief that still blooms.
Its thorns are not flaws. They are the crown.
My grandmother grew roses in her village garden.
She crowned my grandfather with them, placing petals behind his ear. In Greek mythology, roses belonged to Aphrodite. the rose has always marked our passages~ adorning brides, laid upon graves, carried in love and in mourning, a flower for every beginning and every ending. I think this act has deepened as I buried my best friend last summer, he was covered in the rose.
That memory is my altar.
That devotion is my inheritance.
When I burn the rose, I do not end it.
I reveal it. I let fire show its truth ~
that love and grief are bound to the same stem.
That beauty is fleeting and eternal.
That we inherit more than survival ~ we inherit flame, resilience, and the throne we still sit upon.
I have grown alongside these roses and flames. The evolution of this act has shaped me, and sharing it now means everything.
