Since our @wildingleborough appeal launched in spring 2024, we’ve made huge strides for wildlife and wild spaces around #Ingleborough mountain. Together we have:
💚 Used historical records to locate rare species and collect seeds and cuttings to grow on in our upland plant nursery – from globeflowers and purple saxifrage to spiked speedwell and montane willows; (discover more on our blog)
💚 Collected spores from rare ferns to grow in seed trays and plant out onto our bare areas of limestone pavement;
💚 Planting nearly 30,000 montane native tree species;
💚 Restored 300m of dry stone wall, the same length as the Ribblehead Viaduct;
💚 Nurtured several new nature reserves, including the beautifully-flowering slopes of Ashes Shaw;
💚 Shepherded our amazing herd of conservation grazing, making gaps in walls so that they can roam freely across Ingleborough’s slopes;
💚 Hosted two successful Ground Nest festivals, celebrating and raising awareness of our endangered ground-nesting birds;
None of this would have been possible without your help and support. Find out more about our ongoing work at #WildIngleborough and how you can support us on our linktree.

A crayfish research trip leads me to @flamingolandresort for a special peek at this shiny-new hatchery, set-up to rear young crayfish that will be returned to the wild, to bolster the endangered native population.

What lies beneath? I’ve strapped my @gopro into a box of oysters at #SprunPoint to capture the rising tide inundate the Wilder Humber marine restoration project’s aquaculture site. Check out my work from Spurn Point at WilderHumber.org.uk - link in bio ☝️☝️

The camera will spend most of the next 24hrs deep beneath the Humber Estuary’s salty waters & I’ll be back tomorrow to fish it out and see how the shot looks. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get pinched by a crab 🦀 good luck lil buddy!

Seagrass meadows are underwater powerhouses! They support marine life, improve water quality, and benefit local communities 🌊
Wilder Humber is restoring 24 acres of seagrass meadow each year in the Humber estuary! 🚀 The team is testing different restoration methods to find the most effective approach for this dynamic environment.
🎥 In this video: Seed bag planting— the first of the techniques being trialed to help bring back these vital habitats.
#WilderHumber, led by @yorkshirewildlifetrust_ & @lincswildlifetrust with @orsted , is making waves for marine conservation! 🌊

Seagrass is a fascinating, flowering marine plant which grows a network of underground stems called rhizomes. These bind mudflats together and stabilise the sea bed, and the organic structures bury atmospheric carbon below the surface - making seagrass a more effective carbon sink than tropical rainforests! Not to mention all the creatures who use lush seagrass meadows as feeding, breeding and nursery grounds. This helpful animation was hand-made by the restoration team @ywt_marine 👏

Collaborating with @ywt_marine team on a stop-motion animation to reveal the essential role seagrass rhizomes (underground stems) play in the marine ecosystem, without disturbing this protected habitat. Animation soon to follow..
On a decidedly inclement Saint Clement’s Day with storm Bert ravaging Malton’s market square, those who braved the wintry weather found refuge amongst the stalls in the Milton Rooms. In our exhibit, visitors paused to play a word-association game - each creating a scene in this stop-motion animation. We aren’t surprised by all the “snow”s given the morning blizzard, but there’s more to winter than the cold conditions. So here’s to candlelit feasts and fireside drinks; crisp-cloudless days and twinkling night skies.
Spot your handiwork in the animation? Leave us a comment - we’d love to hear from you!

We played a word-association game @leedsopenstudios with drop-in, stop motion animation workshops. Would-be animators inherited their predecessor’s word and responded with one of their own. On the playfulness went, leaving us with this leafy foray through the collective subconscious 🍂
