Watch your head! This week’s axe-wielding Wild One ‘Beheadal’ from Naarm post punk trio
@sexmasks is a track all about communicating brutal honesty.
Shot over a few days between rural Victorian forest and vocalist
@wrygray ’s house, ‘Beheadal’ is a black and white whirlwind combining 360 degree cameras, doll houses on fire and top notch performances from all bandmates Wry,
@kikidreamgrl and
@vinillamocchiato “We wanted to make a video that captured the same sense of urgency as the song, and Finn and his team really made it happen” says the band. “We had a vision of Wry running through the woods with a 360 camera on, but when we went out to the mountain it was snowing, so we were all so cold and slipping around.”
The clip is Melbourne based director
@finnrobilliard ’s first ever legit music video. “I couldn’t have been more stoked to pop the cherry with none other than Sex Mask” says Finn. “I met with Wry back in September last year where, among other things, we discussed the black and white shots of weevils in ‘Kinds of Kindness’. From there I listened to the track non-stop until the concept formed naturally; Wry’s bizarre lyrics with Vinnie and Kaya’s face-scrunchingly vehement beat led me no choice but to go ham with the visuals. Using 360° cameras, snoricams, miniatures, extreme slowmo and explosives we blew up a doll house, went to the snow, shot on green screen... But all in all, as a director that shoots and edits their stuff, working with Sex Mask across all stages of the process was a powerful and gratifying experience. Stay tuned for something new from us soon!”
